05-04-1994 Pine View Cemetery Commission
May 4, 1994

Present: Dougher, Edwards, Supt. Mosher, Prime, Wiswall
Before this meeting of the Commission, Joe Fiore had resigned. Margaret Prime was
appointed in his place by the Town board.
The plastic and inflatable decorations at Easter time were much less prevalent this year
but artificial flowers are still being put on graves. They are removed, tagged and saved
for the owners.
The new mausoleum near the entrance to the crematory has had many compliments
and may stimulate interest in that area. This is a good use of the land since it is filled
land and not suitable for regular burials.
All graves have been topped with soil and will be seeded this week May 6th is the
cutoff date for foundation pours.
The retort is rebuilt and being used. There were seven bodies brought for cremation
yesterday, May 3, with 151 cremations already this year. It is good there are two
working units. The processor is doing a fine job.
The small Austin Cemetery off Rockwell Road was purchased by the Town of
Queensbury in 1965 for$1.00. The Jerry Howe family have mowed it all these years but
Kezia Howe needs help now with a tree that needs to be removed. There are trees that
need to come down in the Butler Cemetery, way back in the woods off the Sherman
Road, and in Jenkins Cemetery as well. There's a rumor that the developer of the land
near the Butler Cemetery agreed to care for the cemetery and Rod will check into this
possibility. If we must do the work, there is a town right-of-way to the cemetery.
Bebout Ford &Tractor, Inc. and Smith's Equipment are the only places that carry the
kind of in-line bag mower that is used to mow around the graves. The 1989 model that
is being traded in has cost too much money in repairs and needs more repair right now.
The money is in the budget and the rules of purchase will be followed.
