MAY 1, 1996 - 9 A.M.
PRESENT: Rodney Mosher, Superintendent
Commissioners : Sylvia Dougher, Bob Edwards, Terry Higgins
Town Historian, Marilyn Van Dyke
We received a copy of the Quick Claim Deed to Quaker Cemetery on
the corner of Quaker and Bay Roads . The old shrubs around the
Bicentennial plaque have been removed. Dr. Van Dyke is going to
contact the Wing Memorial Association in Massachusettes to see if
they would like to make a donation towards new shrubs . The monies
will be coming from the Historian's budget. When the new plantings
are in we will reseed the area.
Rodney is looking into the expenses of cleaning the bronze plaque
and refurbishing the stone. When the new owners of Doyle' s property
take over we will make an arrangement with them for upkeep of the
grounds .
The blinds have not arrived yet.
There' s been no word on the flagpole. Sylvia will check with
Betty.
Summer Youth Job Employment would like to place some youths with us
this summer. Due to State budget cuts they would work four days
instead of five. We have been receiving some miscellaneous help
from Social Services .
Dr. Van Dyke will contact Harrisena Church regarding upkeep of the
cemetery located there.
There have been 48 cremations in April 176 so far this year. The
1996 figures are expected to exceed those of 1995 .
There are two new funeral homes in the area. Wilton Funeral Home
will be using our facility and Tossing Funeral Home in Rutland is
a good possibility.
We are stockpiling rich compost from the landfill .
Sylvia expressed concern for some of our old maps, particularly
Uncas . Copies of these maps are on file at the Town office and
Rodney is making Mylar maps .
Seven more plots were _sold in Horican this month.
Barbara Lemmo is very pleased with the repairs to her gravesite.
