04-05-2016 Queensbury Parks and Recreation Commission, Queensbury, NY 12804 Minutes of the April 5, 2016 regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Queensbury Commissioner Hewlett called the meeting to order at 7:02PM 1.) Roll Call: • Present—Judy Goralski, Greg Hewlett, Wendy Matthews, Lisa White, Fran Cabana • Excused: Todd Eicher • Staff— Steve Lovering—Director, Lori O'Shaughnessy-Assistant Director, Jennifer Baertschi-Program Coordinator& Q-Club Director, Gary Crossman-Aquatic Director • Guests— Amanda Mohr. Three students from Queensbury High School students observing for Government class 2.) Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Matthews motioned to approve the March 1, 2016 minutes, seconded by Commissioner Cabana; all members approved. 3.) Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies) a.) Monthly Correspondence: 1.) Email for Supervisor Strough regarding the capital improvements recommended by the Queensbury Recreation Commission (QRC) 2.) Kayaks Unlimited submitting a proposal to set up a Kayak Rental kiosk at the Hudson River Park 3.) Thank you from William H Barton Intermediate School PTA for the donation b.) Budget Control: Brief discussion. 4.) Unfinished Business a.) Recreation programming space at Gurney Lane—Director Lovering and Commissioner Hewlett met with Supervisor Strough with a conceptual plan for additional recreation space. A future workshop with the Town Board was suggested. 5.) New Business a) Joanne Gerber Show April 15th — So far 370 tickets sold, plan to advertise show more b) Leashed dogs at town parks - Town of Queensbury parks are pet friendly and there is not a leash law, all agreed that the Town of Queensbury current pet friendly policy should remain status quo c) Gurney Lane Pavilion Dedication - Rededicate and name the pavilion after retired Director of the Recreation Department Harry Hansen. Commissioner Hewlett motioned to approve seconded by Commissioner Matthews; all members approved d) Rush Pond Trail Counter: recorded usage at Rush Pond. Will move trail counter to other parks e) Queensbury Land Conservancy (QLC) member Nancy Porpora requested that QLC put pamphlets for the QLC properties at a rack of the Rush Pond entrance. f) Online Registration for the QRD approved by the Queensbury Town Board on April 4th 2016. g) New minimum wage passage will have impact on budget 6.) Committee Reports —None at this time 7.) Additional Information and Reports (see file for copies) • Spartan Sprint Flyer— Sunday May 15th • Gurney Lane Recreation Area Pavilion Flyer—rental for the summer of 2016 • QRD sponsoring an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training—flyer • Q-Club flyers were mailed— Scholarships for Q-Club will be administered through Director, Lori O'Shaughnessy -Assistant Director and Jennifer Baertschi-Program Coordinator& Q-Club Director • Commissioner Matthews commented that the Gurney Lane mountain bike trails are getting a lot of usage 8.) Adjournment—A motion was made by Commissioner Matthews, seconded by Commissioner White to adjourn at 7:58PM. All members present approved.
