There were present:

being a quorum of the Board.
MINUTES of the public hearing of the Town of Queensbury
the Town Office Building on July 17,
James Keller, the Secretary, acted as Chairman of the
meeting. Charles O. Sicard read the minutes of the last meeting
and upon motion by Charles O. Sicard, seconded by George Kurosaka
and carried unanimously, were app~oved.
The notice of public hearing on Application for a
Variance #42 by Tom Murphy Auto Sales for the construction of an

oversized sign was readvbY;Jthe Secretary. Mr. Murphy was present arid
also Mr. Hoffman of Signs of Progress. It was pointed out that this
was for a sign which had panels that could be changed to advertize
both the camper trailers and sno mobiles whith Mr. Murphy sold.
Mr. Robert Eddy, Chairman of the Queensbury Beautification
Committee was present. He stated that they were becoming concerned
over the situation of signs in the Town and that the signs should not
be permitted because of lack of hardship in these cases. Considerable
discussion was had on this about the authority of the Zoning Board to
grant variances for signs and why many of those granted had various
restrictions in them. Mr. Eddy stated his Committee felt that the
sign part of the ordinance ought to be enforced to keep the number
of signs down. He said that although they couldn't do anything about
the signs there before the Ordinance they could see that the new ones

were in accordance with the requirements of the Ordinance.

After discussion, upon motion duly made, seconded and

carried unanimonsly, it was
RESOLVED, that Application for a Variance
#42 by Tom Murphy Auto Sales be approved
in accordance with his application.
Mr. Keller stated that the type of sign which Mr. Mµrphy
proposes in that he is fully utilizing the full sign area as well as
advertising two products on one sign is what they would like to
incorporate throughout the Town rather than several small smgns.
The next item on the agenda is Application for a
Variance #43 by Northern Distributing Co. for the construction of
two signs within 25' of the right of way. The notice was read by the
Secretary and discussion was hadwwith reference to the signs and their
proposed location. Mr. Eddy's earlier comments were noted to also
apply to this Application. After discussion, upon motion duly made,
seconded and carried unanimously, itwwas
RESOLVED, that Application for a Variance
#43 by Northern Distributing Co. he disapproved
on the grounds that no hardship has been shown
for the granting of this Variance.
Application for a Variance #44 by JeRay's Re~taurant
for the construction of a sign within 50' of the road was presented
to the meeting. Mr. Hoffman discussed this proposed sign with
members of the Board and after this discussion, upon motion duly
made, sedended and carried unanimously, this was referred to the
Planning Board for their report and set for a public hearing on
August 21, 1968 at 7:30 P.M.
Mr. Carl DeSantis and Attorney Michael J. O'Connor
of the firm of McPhillips, Fitzgerald & Meyer, representing

Mr. Otto Schweikhart, were present asking if they had to apply for

a variance to relocate signs in connection with the taking of

lands by the State. Considerableddiscussion was had on this pomnt
and it was suggested that this be turned over tb,:the Town Attorney
for his opinion and because of the time limitation of September 9
on these that they file applications which could be calledffor a
public hearing at the next meeting if necessary.
Application for a Variance #45 by Carl DeSantis,
Aviation Road Development Corp., Howard Johnson Restaurant for
relocttion of an existing non-conforming sign within SO' of the
right of way and Application for a Variance #46 by Otto Schweikhart
represented by ~1r. O'Connor, for relocation of two signs within SO'
of the right of way were sent to the Planning Board, the Town
Attorney and set for a public hearing on August 21, 1968.
There being no other business to come before the meeting,

Kurosaka, and carried unanimously, it was adjourned.
