1995-07-12 QUEENS BURY RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF MEETING JULY 12, 1995 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Queensbury held Wednesday, July 12, 1995, at the Wiawaka Holiday House, R.D. #1 - Box #1072, Lake George, New York 12845. Chairman Simmonds called the meeting to order at 7:17 p.m. PRESENT: Commissioners Auer, Carusone, Maine, Schachner and Simmonds ALSO PRESENT: Director Hansen ABSENT: Commissioners Hersh & LaBombard (ex) VISITORS: None APPROVAL OF MINUTES None COMMUNICATIONS AND REMARKS FROM VISITORS The Director briefly recounted the specifics of his informal meeting with the flag football group who were in attendance for the June commission meeting. The monthly meeting had been cancelled earlier that day (lack of a quorum) and the Director was at the Town Office Building to explain the situation (flag football decision) and advise anyone who might be there to attend the meeting. There was some discussion and the Commission had no further comment. The Commission reviewed their letter to the Supervisor (6/20/95), regarding the Hudson River Park project and there was considerable discussion relative to the Board's request for a joint meeting to again discuss the recreational facilities proposed at the park. The Director advised the Commission that the Board had suggested a 6:00 p.m. meeting on Monday, July 24th at the Town Office Building and this was agreed on. A reminder notice to all commissioners will be sent by the Director sometime next week. The West Glens Falls firehouse ballfield article (Post Star- 6/20/95) was also discussed and the Director relayed some of the history behind the Department's use of the site. He also mentioned that he was in the process of setting up a meeting with a special -over- -2- committee of the fire company to discuss facility development plans which would probably be similar to what was accomplished at the South Queensbury Firehouse site. The Commission reviewed the list of 1995 summer program employees and there were questions about how new applicantions were processed. The Director also explained the procedure, whereby, "old timers" reapplied, were interviewed and rehired, if warranted. The Commission also requested information on the status of a number of summer programs (swim lessons, "Q-Club" etc.), and the Director gave a verbal recap. He also mentioned the tennis court resurfacing situation which resulted in the Department having to find an alternate site at the last moment. There being no further business, the Commission meeting was adjourned at 8:03 p.m., and the Chairman invited everyone on a short walking tour of the Wiawaka facilities. The next meeting will be held on August 9, 1995, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at a park site to be determined at a later date. Minutes prepared by Harry R. Hansen
