approved. Question regarding leak at Gurney Lane Pool. Director Lovering is
having a company come to evaluate and determine where the problem exists.
Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies)
• Monthly Correspondence-none
• Budget Control Report distributed as of 09/02/08-fuel for vehicles seems to
be a problem for the last quarter. This problem is universal.
Unfinished Business
• West End Park Project Update by Director Lovering—substantial progress
made by the contractor, completion date by September 30tH. Councilman
Brewer called Chairman LaBombard with many compliments as to how the
park is looking. Final grading, seeding and blacktopping will be done within
the next few weeks. Color scheme by Jan B. HMA has been paid a total of
$43,000 thus far.
• Ridge/Jenkinsville Park Project Update—discussion on Park Dedication
Planning. Question whether we should wait until spring. Many features of
the facility not ready for a "rushed" dedication. Approved water treatment
system, bathrooms, snack bar etc. not ready yet. All agreed to wait until
spring and have a proper dedication.
• Meadowbrook/Hiland Park Trail System Update with Councilman
Montesi—over two hundred acres in this area. Director Lovering and
Councilman Montesi walked the area. There is about $22,000 in funding set
up in 2002-2004. Some simple work can begin now with proper permits and
further work can continue in the spring. A great deal of discussion on the
positive aspects of creating a trail system. There is much enthusiasm with
Commission members regarding this project. Possible name Halfway
Brook Nature Preserve?
New Business
• 2009 Budget Proposal submitted by Director Lovering. Meeting with
Supervisor Stec took place on September 5111 Printing budget reduced due to
purchase by Town of special printer to do most projects "in house". Budget
looks good and is justifiable.
• Discussion on whether coaching clinics would help coaches teach sequential
skills which are age appropriate and time adjusted. Does a need exist for
basic coaching skills for our people who coach? This topic will receive
further attention and discussion and was not meant as a criticism of
Department leadership and personnel. Rather, it is an attempt to seek
continual improvement in our programs, techniques and methods of
instruction.
