2008-11-04 Queensbury Parks and Recreation Commission Queensbury, NY 12804 Minutes of the November 4, 2008 regular meeting of the Queensbury Parks and Recreation Commission held at the Town of Queensbury Supervisor's Conference Room Chairman LaBombard called the meeting to order at 7: 04pm Roll Call: • Present— Conboy, Fusco, LaBombard, Maine, White • Excused—Irish, Mott • Staff—Director Steve Lovering, Assistant Director Lori O'Shaughnessy • Guests—Monica Jacobs, Robin Smith Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Maine , seconded by Commissioner White , to approve the minutes from the October 7, 2008 meeting. All members present approved. Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies) • Monica Jacobs, Robin Smith—BMX Bike Track Presentation/Discussion a very informative presentation on the characteristics and benefits of this emerging sport, involving costs, track design etc. Questions regarding track construction, local interest base were discussed. • Monthly Correspondence o Commission membership listing with address and phone directory included w/mailing (correction made to Commissioner White's e-mail address 0 2009 Commission meeting schedule included w/mailing—discussion on not having a meeting on election day in 2009, also summer meetings. Motion by Commissioner Maine seconded by Commissioner Conboy to move November meeting to the 10th along with one meeting in summer which will be held on July 28th All members present approved. o Memo from Director Lovering to Budget Officer Tierney regarding contingency request funding approved by Town Board. o Letter from Director Lovering to Commission members regarding 2009 Budget adjustments • Budget Control Report as of 10/29/2008 distributed and discussed Unfinished Business • West End Park Project Update—basically completed with punch list items completed. Contractor was very good to work with. Final invoice due soon. Park is getting excellent use by community. • Ridge/Jenkinsville Park Project Update—winterizing sprinkler system, also turf issues are improving for spring opening. Dedication ceremonies will take place in the spring for both parks. • 2009 Revised Projected Budget presented and discussed New Business • Travel Basketball Program—this program has been reorganized to closely mirror the Departments philosophy. Commission fully supports this change. • Hovey Pond Water Quality Issue—vegetation and algae growth needs to be addressed. We will work with Soil and Water in 2009 to put a plan together to address this issue. (see file for possible solutions) • Gurney Lane Pool Update—inspection done by Aquatic Commercial Solutions. Two possible locations are likely centered around pressure lines below the pool deck. Proposed bid to complete repair in two phases. Phase 1 costs equals $4,186 and Phase 2 costs equals $9,938. Commission recommends this work be approved by Town Board ASAP.
