QUEENSBURY RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF MEETING
NOVEMBER 26, 1984
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the
Town of Queensbury, held Monday, November 26, 1984 at the Queensbury
Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Chairperson Little called
the meeting to order at 7:41 p.m.

Commissioners Lemery, Little, Martin, Teti, Councilman
Morrell and Director Hansen
ABSENT:
Commissioners Bly, Granger (ex.), LaBombard (ex.), and
Councilwoman Monahan
VISITORS:
Aaron Fiore (Post Star)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Teti moved to approve the minutes of the September 24,
1984 meeting. Commissioner Lemery seconded the motion, which was un-
animously approved.
COMMUNICATIONS
The Director explained the correspondence received from the Warren
County Youth Bureau, which advised the Town that the Recreation Depart-
ment's request for $19,413.80, for the operation of the recreation pro-
grams in 1985 had been approved.
The Commission next reviewed the letter from Ms. Mary Gray, Chairman
of the Education Committee for the Lake George Opera Guild. The Com-
mittee is seeking the Department's participation regarding the purchase
of tickets for the Opera Guild's student performance next summer. Other
area recreation departments have participated in the past by purchasing
blocks of tickets, which are then either given out as prizes or re-so¡d
to children participating in summer programs. Overall, the Commission
was in favor of the idea but questioned how the tickets could be given
out and also about transportation. The Commission suggested that Jack
Potter be contacted to see what has been done in Hudson Falls regarding
how tickets are distributed. In addition, the Commission recommended
that Ms. Gray be contacted to confirm that the Department would be in-
terested in buying a number of tickets (number yet to be determined).
The Director will attempt to gather more information and recommend some-
thing at a later date. '

SWIMMING POOL UPDATE
The Director updated the Commission on the progress regarding the
Gurney Lane Pool project. The bids were approved by the Town Board
and have been sent out. Sealed bids will be opened at the Town Office
Building at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12th and thereafter will be
evaluated by Dick Morse and the Director. Based on the bid prices a
recommendation regarding the project should follow shortly.
1984-85 WINTER PROGRAMS
The Director reviewed the tentative schedule of Department programs
planned for the coming winter and there was some discussion on the skating
rink at the West Glens Falls park, the children's wrestling program, the
arts and crafts classes and the bi-weekly ski trips.
The Commission also suggested that the Department devise some means
of registration accountability for those using the Gurney Lane ski trails.
Some form of sign-in register will be constructed at the facility so that
the Department can evaluate usage this winter.
The Director advised the Commission regarding the recent suggestion,
by the Town's insurance company, that the Hovey Pond building be boarded
up as soon as possible to discourage vandalism.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
The Director's report was reviewed and there were some comments re-
garding the monthly budget update and the Department's position in regard
to expenditures and revenues to date.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourn~d at 8:33
