MAY 21, 1984
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Carmission of the Town of
Queensbury, held Morrlay, May 21, 1984 at the Queensbury Town Office Building,
Queensbury, New York. Chairperson Little called the meeting to order at 7: 31 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Ccmnissioner LaBanbard rroved to approve the minutes of the MarCh 26th and May 3rd,
1984 meetings. CCmnissioner Martin seconded the notion, which was unarum:>usly approved.
Ccmni.ssioner Bly mentioned that the May 3rd minutes were not correct am that he
had said that the Camù.ssion was charged with the responsibility of organizing recrea-
tion programs am not corrlucting them. The Ccmni.ssion was ooly to observe am report
to the Town Board on recreation programs. The Director explained that this change
would replace what had previously been written in the May 3rd minutes.

Chairperson Little reviewed the letter written to the Supervisor regarding Gurney
lane and a joint Board/Camù.ssion meeting. Ccmni.ssioner Martin pointed out that even
though he was not present, he was in favor of the Gurney Lane project am hoped that
the records wouid indicate that the entire Ccmnission was unanim:>Usly in favor of this
project.
Additional correspondence fran H. Hagrrann regarding the funding application am
letters to the fire ccrnpanies regarding use of their property for smmer activities
were 'also reviewed.
'Ihe Carrnission discussed the Mohican Grange and their concerns aOOut the semi-
pernanent equipnent and agreed to set up a meeting as soon as possible to answer their
questions.
The Director alED discussed the free lunch program which has been arranged with the
Camlunity Action Agency for children in the South Queensbury and West Glens Falls areas.
This federally furrled program will begin in July and be available to all children wOO at-
tend playground acti vi ties in these two areas. The Depart:Iænt has canpleted the neces-
sary paper work and the program has been suJ::mitted for federal approval.

The Recreation Workshop, which the Director will speak at, was also discussed.
DlROCTOR'S REPORT
The Director reviewed, sane of the Depart::Iœnt' s SUTlTler program preparations,
incluling the Mettowee River canpany performance, the chil¿hen' s soccer league, the
boating course and the Queensbury School Pool situation. The Carmission had sane
questic:ns regarding the surn:ær program brochure arrl there was also a discussion re-
garding the p:x>l situation. Use of the school p:x>l this SUT1œr looks to be out of the
question am based on the situation at the Glens Falls School p:x>l am Paradise Lake.
the Director has reccmnerrled that the Depart::Iœnt only offer sw:im lessons at Gurney Lane.
After sane discussion, the Ccmni.ssion agreed with the Director's plan for maximum use
of Gurney Lane.
The Director also discussed a personnel matter regarding the hiring of an Wi-
vidual to assist the Director during the pre-season organization period prior to the
start of sunrner programs. Councilwanan Monahan explained the Board's reasoning for r~
jecting the request and there was discussion on the use of other Town errployees during
slack periods.
There being no further business, the neeting was adjourned at 9:44 p.m. The next
rœeting will be held on Monday, June 25th 1984.
