Chair- person Little called the meeting to order at 7:51 p.m. PRESENT: Commissioners Little, Martin, Teti, Councilman Morrell and Director Hansen ABSENT: VISITORS: Commissioners Bly, Granger (ex.), Roop Mr. Joe Julian (Youth Hockey) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Martin moved to approve the minutes of the September 26, October 24, and November 28, 1983 meetings. Com- missioner Teti seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE The Director introduced Mr. Joe Julian, representing a com- mittee of interested Queensbury residents who are seeking support for Queensbury High School hockey. Mr. Julian remarked on the growth of youth hockey in the area and stated that his group be- lieves that high school hockey will be the next step. Mr. Julian explained that the biggest drawback in hockey is the cost, including equipment and ice time. His purpose tonight was to seek the com- mission's support in upgrading the Recreation Department's facilities, including better ice conditions and hockey boards. By improving the facilities, more individuals will then have the opportunity to par- ticipate and thus the reality of high school hockey in the area may result. The Commission discussed the legality of making improvements to the hockey area created on the school grounds, and the Director was instructed to investigate the cost of buying/building hockey boards. The Director briefly reviewed the correspondence, which was included in the monthly packet, and there was some discussion on the pool committee's recommendation. The Director updated the Commission regarding the upcoming meeting with Mr. Harold Hagemann and possible federal funding for the Gurney Lane project. The upcoming meeting should answer many of the questions regarding the possibility of funding and will lay the groundwork for the steps which will have to follow. The Commission discussed the monthly meeting dates for the coming year and the schedule was approved and will be distributed to all concerned. DIRECTOR'S REPORT The enclosed Director's Report was reviewed and there was discussion on some of the winter programs. The condition of the ice skating area was discussed and overall the Director was ex- tremely pleased with the quantity and quality of the programs which the Department is offering this winter. The Director updated the Commission on the Senior Citizen Organization and their usage of the Hovey Pond building. The Club is still seeking a more permanent facility in which to hold their monthly meetings and their craft classes. The Town Board has ad- vised the Club that renovation of the building at Hovey Pond, based on initial cost estimates, is out of the realm of possibility at this time. The Supervisor has offered the use of the Town Office Building (planning room and court room) and the Club is considering the offer. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:22 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 27, 1984.
