1982-02-22 EXE QUEENSBURY RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF MEETING FEBRUARY 22, 1982 EXECUTIVE SESSION The Commission met to discuss and analyze the special meeting held on Monday, February 1st, with Mr. and Mrs. Toomey regarding the possible purchase by the Town of the Lake Sunnyside Pavillion I property (2.43 acres). The Toomeys relayed that the Pavillion in- cluding approximately 700' of lake front property is available for sale (~50, - 60,000.00). Discussions with the Toomeys revealed that the Pavillion has suffered from non-use and vandalism. In addition, it was pointed out that the facility has no rest rooms, is not heated and that fresh water for drinking, and showers, would have to be pumped directly from the Lake. Overall, those present were skeptical regarding the condition of the Pavillion itself and whether the structure could be used. Also, the question of water quality was discussed and here again there were conflicting opinions regarding use as a public swimming area. The Commission thanked the Toomeys for their information and promised to get back to them as soon as possible. Commissioner Granger relayed information regarding septic systems and pointed out that the new building/zoning codes for the Town would not permit, because of proximity to the lake shore, restrooms, on the property. Commissioner Champagne, as an area resident, relayed additional information regarding the Lake's water quality in that during late summer months alge growth and floating seaweed were evident on the surface. The Commission expressed concern about the purchase price of the property in light of the expected cost to either fix up or totally rebuild the Pavillion. After reviewing additional information regarding taxes, assessed valuation and future potential the Director was asked how this area might fit in to the Recreation Department's Master Plan. The Director explained that Gurney Lane was not being used to its maximum potential and based on the cost to purchase the Toomey property and the condition of the Pavillion, the development of this property as a swimming area was not recommended at this time. Therefore, it was the consensus that due to the neÿative aspects associated with the property, and based on the Director s recommenda- tion and the Master Plan, that 11r. Toomey be informed that the Rec- reation Department was not interested in purchasing his property at this time.
