QUEENS BURY RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF MEETING
JULY 27, 1981
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission
of the Town of Queensbury, held Monday, July 27, 1981. at the
Queensbury Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Chairman
Yasko called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
PRESENT:
Commissioners Bly, Champagne, Lavigne, Yasko and
Director Hansen.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Lavigne moved to approve the minutes of the June 22,
1981 meeting. Commissioner Bly seconded the motion, which was unani-
mously approved.
COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE:
Commissioners Lavigne and Bly relayed some favorable comments
regarding the condition of the Gurney Lane Recreation Area. Overall
the facility has looked much better than in years past and this is
due primarily to the work of the maintenance crew and the staff.
COMMISSIONER'S TERMS OF OFFICE:
The Director reviewed the enclosed sheet, which showed the present
Recreation Commissioner's terms of office and there was some discussion.
The Commission was advised that Recreation Commissioner Howe had re-
signed today because of personal reasons. Chairman Yasko reported that
the Supervisor had indicated that the two vacancies which now exist on
the Recreation Commission (Lyons and Howe) would be filled as soon as
possible.
The Director explained the list of Recreation Department employees
which was enclosed in the monthly packet and had been requested by the
Commission. It was explained that most of the playground staff were
new this year while the entire swimming pool staff were returnees from
previous years.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:

The Commission reviewed the Director's Report including an update
of all summer programs. The Director expressed disappointment in the
registration figures for adult golf and tennis lessons. It was ex-
plained this was a result of when the lessons were offered as opposed
to the quality of the instruction.
The Commission commented concerning the registration figures for
the teen programs which seem to reflect a lack of interest. It was
explained that many teenagers because of the economy, are now working
and are not available to participate in the basketball/baseball programs.
The Department's new programs are all going and overall the
Director is pleased with the total Summer Recreation Program.
The Commission briefly discussed the 1982 department budget and
it was decided that the Director would prepare a preliminary budget
and submit it to the Recreation Commission for discussion and their
approval at the August 24th meeting.
The Director updated the Commission regarding the accident reports
for the month and there was some discussion.
The Commission approved the Director's request to offer the two
new programs (Adult Swim and Children's Soccer) later this summer.
The Recreation Commission adjourned to Executive Session to discuss
personnel matters. Returning to Open Session and there being no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:21 p.m. The next meeting
will be held on Monday, August 24, 1981.
