QUEENS BURY RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF MEETING
JUNE 22, 1981
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission
of the Town of Queensbury, held MOnday, June 22, 1981, at the
Queensbury Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Vice-
Chairman Yasko called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners Bly, Champagne, Lavigne, Roop, Yasko and
Director Hansen.
ABSENT: Commissioner Howe
VISITOR.S: None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Champagne moved to approve the minutes of the
March 23rd, April 27th and May 18, 1981 meetings. Commissioner
Roop seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE:
The Director briefly explained the letter from the Supervisor
to Recreation Commission Chairman John Lyon. There was some dis-
cussion and the Commission suggested that the Director write ~
letter of appreciation from the Commission/Department and that a
resolution of appreciation be written and forwarded to the Town
Board for their approval, as soon as possible.
The Commission, did favorably comment concerning the 1981 summer
program brochure and it was the concensus that this year's brochure
was most informative.
DIRE"CTOR t S REPORT:
The Commission was updated concerning the majority of summer
programs, most of which began today. In almost all cases the pro-
grams were well attended and the Department is looking forward to
another successful summer.
The playground, softball and arts and crafts programs began a~
five locations throughout the community and as expected attendance
was good.

The Swim Lesson program is still the most popular, and as in
the past, was filled to capacity for Term I. In the future the
Department may also use Gurney Lane for swimming lessons because
the School pool is not big enough to accommodate all who wish to
participate.
The Department offered some new programs this summer, including:
Adult Jog and SWim, Children's Water Ballet/Synchronized Swimming,
Junior LifeSaving and WAter Safét:y and a Track and Field program.
Pre-registration and first day attendance figures indicate that all
four programs will be successful.
Open SWim activities at both Gurney Lane and the School pool
were crowded and it is expected that this will be the case for the
entire summer.
The other sports activity programs including:tennis, golf,
field hockey, basketball~ wrestling/weightlifting and baseball were
either underway or scheduled to begin later this week.
The Commission was pleased with the progress of the summer
programs to date and asked to have a list of all summer employees
by the next meeting.
ELECTION OF OFFICES:
After some discussion, Vice-Chairman Yasko was elected Chairman
of the Recreation Commission for the remainder of the 1981 year.
The Commission discussed the position of Recreation Commission
Vice-Chairman, however, no action was taken.
The Director was instructed to contact the Supervisor regarding
Mr. Howe's attendance at the monthly Commission Meetings.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
9:05 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Monday, July 27, 1981.
