Wilkin, Post Star APPROVAL OF MINUTES Following review, Commissioner Bly moved to approve the minutes of the June 25, 1979 meeting. COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE None GURNEY LANE FILTER/PIPING PROBLEM The Director alerted the Commission regarding the newest problem at Gurney Lane. A 6' - 10' PVC piping which leads into the pool filter has cracked in three places, and would now have to be replaced. (Previously patched) This type of repair is beyond the capability of the Gurney Lane Maintenance Crew, and therefore, an outside plumbing contractor would have to be called. The Director has contacted such a firm, however, no estimate to complete the repairs has been given. After further discussion, Commissioner Howe moved to authorize the Director to take whatever steps necessary to have the pool problem rectified as soon as possible for an amount not to exceed $500.00. Commissioner Bly seconded the motion which was approved. Commissioner Champagne suggested that Tom Flaherty, (Water Department), be contacted and be on hand, if possible, when the plumbing firm examined the problem. The Director concurred with this suggestion and also alerted the Commission that the pool may have to be shut down during the period of repairs. DIRECTOR'S REPORT The Director updated the Commission regarding all summer programs, and the outlook for the remainder of the season. The Ball Program was discussed and it was noted that the daily attendance by participants to this program has diminished noticeably. The Director explained that: -2- Bus Transportation, (new this year), team size, and lack of adequate facilities at all locations, were some of the reasons for the lack of daily attendance. The Swim Lesson Program was also discussed in regard to the number of non-residents who are participating. It was pointed out that presently, the Recreation Department does not limit registration to residents first, and therefore, non-residents as well as residents who desire to participate, may do so on a first come basis. Due to the popularity of some programs now and in the fu~ure, this may become a serious problem, and therefore, the Director will analyze the non-resident usage factor in detail in the summer report. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:42 P.M. The next meeting will be held on Monday, August 27, 1979 at 7:30 P.M.
