1979-05-21 QUEENSBURY RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF MEETING MAY 21, 1979 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Queensbury, held Monday, May 21, 1979, at the Queensbury Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Vice-Chairman Yasko called the meeting to order at 7:30 P. M. Present: Commissioners: Bly, Champagne, Howe, Lavigne, Roop, Yasko, Director Hansen Absent: Commissioner Lyon, (ex.) Visitors: T. Leguire, J. Wilkin APPROVAL OF MINUTES Following review, Commissioner Lavigne moved to approve the minutes of the April 23, 1979 meeting. Commissioner Howe seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. CORRESPONDENCE/COMMUNICATIONS The Director explained the correspondence received from Mayor Bartholomew in regard to the Departments' request to use City property in the West Glens Falls area for a summer playground. A meeting between Mayor Bartholomew, Mike Brandt, and the Director has been tentatively set, and hopefully all details can be worked out. Regarding the BOCES request to use the Gurney Lane facility on June 14, 1979, the Commission and thêDirector agreed that this type of use is worthwhile and should be continued wher~ possible. In as much as the Town would still be responsible if an accident occurred, the Director will have staff members present in a supervisory capacity. SUMMER PROGRAM BROCHURE UPDATE The Director advised the Commission concerning the status of the Summer Program Brochure. Lindstrand Printing su~mitted the low bid, and has been working, (typesetting), for the past two weeks. The completed brochure is expected around June 1, 1979, and will be distributed through the School System and at other pUblic outlets. BAY-RIDGE SUMMER LOCATION The Director advised the Commission that a s'uitable playground/ softball site in the Bay-Ridge area has not yet been found. Commissioners Howe and Champagne suggested that the Director inspect the area with them in order to find a suitable site. Commissioner Champagne and the Director, following the meeting, will try to locate a suitable site, as Commissioner Champagne, who is familiar with the area, has a number of possible locations in mind. ~ DIRECTOR'S REPORT Th~ Director's Report was reviewed and there were some questions concerning Gurney Lane. Barring major problems, the pool will open on Saturday, May 26, 1979, on a pre-season basis, (weekends & holidays only), until June 25, 1979, when it will be open daily through Labor Day. The maintenance difficulties were also explained, but these have all been corrected. The Director is in the process of hiring the personnel to staff the summer programs, and this should be completed shortly. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P. M. The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 25, 1979 at 7:30 P. M.
