QUEENS BURY RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF MEETING
MARCH 26, 1979
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission
of the Town of Queensbury, held Monday,March 26, 1979, at the
Queensbury Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Chairman
Lyon called the meeting to order at 7:30 P. M.

commissioners: Bly, Champagne, Lavigne, Lyon, Yasko,
and Director Hansen
ABSENT:
Commissioners: Howe, Roop

J. Wilkins, T. Lequire
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Following review, Commissioner Lavigne moved to approve the
minutes of the January 22, 1979 meeting. Commissioner Bly seconded
the motion which was unanimously approved. Commissioner Bly then
moved to approve the minutes of the February 26, 1979 meeting.
Commissioner Lavigne seconded the motion which was unanimously
approved.
CORRESPONDENCE/COMMUNICATIONS
The Director briefly reviewed the two (2) Division for Youth
Band applications, and explained why it was necessary to, "rush",
these through. The funds will be used for personnel and supplies
to operate a 1979 Summer Playground/Softball/Arts & Crafts program
in the West Glens Falls and South Queensbury areas.
The Director advised the Commission on the status of a former
employee, Les Baird, who has had a recent heart attack, and how this
situation effects the sll...X'pr:99.~.'.,.Û'."Cl1t~a.y Lane.
The Director, Gordon Kilts, (adult education), and John Dennett,
(Queensbury School Athletic Director), have met to discuss the
possibility of summer athletic/recreation clinics for children and
adults. The concept is good, but still in the discussion stage and
additional meetings are planned in the future. -
RECREATION SPEAK-UP MEETINGS #4 & #5
The Commission reviewed the minutes of Recreation Speak-Up
Meetings #4 & #5. It was pointed out that quite a few of those
who attended the West Glens Falls meeting were unaware of the
facilities at Gurney Lane. This seemed to be something brought
out in all five meetings and is an area where the Department can
improve.
Commissioner Bly relayed some of the comments of those who
attended the West Glens Falls meeting, in that, to date nothing

has occurred. The Director pointed out that any permanent work at
this time would be premature because no decision had been made, and
the Master Plan is not complete. The Commission briefly discussed
the area in terms of possible future improvements, and instructed
the Director to talk with those attending the up-coming Thursday
øight meeting regarding volunteer assistance with an area summer
project.
SUMMER BASEBALL PROGRAM
Chairman Lyon explained the summer baseball situation regarding
the Queensbury Community League, the School District and the
Recreation Department. It was explàined that the Community League
had requested and ~een~ranèed permission to take over the 13 - 15
year olds summer baseball program, which the Recreation Department
had conducted on an informal basis for the past four or five years.
Chairman Lyon suggested that the Recreation Department conduct a
baseball program beginning once the Community League has ended,
(July & August), and this would solve the pro~lem. The Director
requested that the Commission hold off making a decision until they
had read the Summer Program Report.
MASTER P~AN - SECTION 1

The Commission briefly reviewed the rough draft of Section 1
of the Department Master Plan. A few minor changes in wording were
made and the Commission requested this section be typed in final
form. Section 2, (An evaluation of present programs and facilities),
is being worked on and should be available shortly.
SPECIAL MEETING - SUMMER PROGRAM REPORT
It was decided that the Summer proqram Report would be reviewed
and evalu.ated at a special meeting on Friday, March 30, 1979,
beginning at 7:30 P. M. (Town Office Building)
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
The commission briefly reviewed the Director's Report including
the Kiwanis/Recreatio~ Department Swim Meet results and were informed
that the Department has received $7,528.80 (50' funding) from the
New York State Division for Youth.
There being no further business the meeting was adjou~ned at
8:45 p. M. The next meeting will be held on Monday, April 23, 1979
at 7:30 P. M.
