Minutes of the March 3, 2015 regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Queensbury held at the
Town of Queensbury Supervisor's Conference Room
Chairwoman Matthews called the meeting to order at 7:04
1.)Roll Call:
• Present—Wendy Matthews, Judy Goralski, Greg Hewlett, Todd Eicher, Lisa White, Fran Cabana
• Excused —Jennifer Switzer
• Staff— Steve Lovering—Director, Lori O'Shaughnessy -Assistant Director, Jennifer B aertschi-Program

2.) Approval of Minutes:
Commissioner Hewlett motioned to approve the February 3, 2015 minutes, seconded by Commissioner
Goralski; all members approved.
3.) Annual Organizational Meeting:
Commissioner Matthews nominated Commissioner Hewlett for the chairman position, seconded and all
approved. Commissioner Hewlett nominated Commissioner Eicher for the vice-chairman position, seconded and all
approved. Commissioner Goralski was nominated to the secretary position, it was seconded and approved. Various
committee positions were assigned.
4.) Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies)
a.) Monthly Correspondence:
1.) Letter from Mr. Fran Cabana expressing his interest in serving on the Queensbury Recreation
Commission (QRC)board. The Town Board has approved and appointed Mr. Cabana.
2.) A request from the Queensbury WHBI School and the Queensbury Middle School PTSO for a donation
for a fundraiser. A day use family pass to Gurney Lane was donated to each organization.
3.) Dan Ladd The Chronicle Outdoors Editor exchanged emails with Director Lovering inquiring about
grooming the trails at Rush Pond Park.
b.) Budget Control—A brief discussion
5.) Unfinished Business
a) Program Flyer Distribution-the various campaigns that were approved by the Queensbury Union Free
School (QUFSD)District's Superintendent Douglas Huntley to advertise the Queensbury Recreation
Department's programs within the school were explained. A Poster campaign "Where have all the flyers
gone?" and a seasonal banner that would be displayed prior program registration.
b) Commission/Supervisor Meeting: Director Lovering, and Commissioner Hewlett gave an overview of
what was discussed at the meeting; mostly Butler Pond and Half-Way Brook Trails and the role the QRC
would play. Also discussed the need for more program space; many programs cannot be made available
during the day due to lack of program space. Commissioner Switzer was also in attendance at this meeting.
c) 2015 Capital Project/Funding Recommendation—Director Lovering created a two tiered level of
importance for various projects that need to be addressed in the parks. Level 1 were projects that were
immediate and level two need to be completed but not as urgently. Director Lovering will set up a workshop
with the town board to get approval to move the funds form the recreation account to the Capital Fund
Account. In addition Director Lovering will discuss funding of$15,000.00 needed for WebTrak, an online
registration tool; the funding for this cannot be from the Recreation Fee account.
d) Winter Programs: Asst. Director O'Shaughnessy noted that the participation in winter programs was down
by 13%, this is attributed the lack of flyer distribution in the QUFSD schools, this includes a decrease in
children participating in the swim lesson programs noted Aquatic Director Crossman.
6.) New Business
a) 2015 User Fee Schedule Recommendation—After a discussion Commissioner Eicher motioned to
approve, Commissioner Goralski seconded all present approved.

8.) Additional Information and Reports-
• Aquatic Director Crossman updated the progress on the recreation department using
social media (twitter, Facebook)to share information, and also improving the website's
platform for searching. He is also developing an APP.
• Commissioner Matthews confirmed that the 2"d annual Churney Gurney mountain bike
event at Gurney Lane will be held on August 2, 2015.
9.) Executive Session -
• Motion made by Commissioner Hewlett and seconded by Commissioner White to go into executive
session
• Motion made by Commissioner Goralski and seconded by Commissioner White to adjourn executive
session.
10.) Adjournment—A motion was made by Commissioner Eicher, seconded by Commissioner White to
adjourn at 8:37. All members present approved.
