-Councilman Barber-request the reading of the following letter:
UNITED STATES POST OFFICE
Glens Falls , N.Y. 12801
Date'. January 7, 1976
OUR REF: JJC:mayo
SUBJECT: Z I C''ODE for TOWN. OF Q U E E N S B U R Y
TO Mr. Michael .Brandt
Supervisor & Member of Board
Town of Queensbury
R.D.2 West Mountain Road
G1ensFalls , New York 12801
At a meeting held at this office in October of 1975 with Board Member of
the previous administration of the Town of Queensbury, I indicated that
it was our plan to request the assignment of specific ZIP. Codes for the
Towns of Queensbury and Moreau (South Glens Falls) . I explained that
essentially our action was motivated by the desire to facilitate the
distribution of mails through our system for those locations. The Board
Members present stated their concern for Township identity and revenue
sharing distribution, which they felt could be facilitated by separate
ZIP Code assignment. It was pointed out that while we were sympathetic
to those problems , neigher were within the scope of responsibility of the
United States Postal Service and were not elements for consideration
in assignment of ZIP Codes .
At this time I regret to report that our application .for these ZIP Codes has
been denied. There are:-specific criteria for the assignment of ZIP Codes ,
which inc_lude:'very briefly the following circumstances:
1 Establishment of "new Towns ," communities and large developments of
10,000 or more possible deliveries
2 For our distribution capacity, an area of 50 or more delivery routes
Mould be required.
a Our long-range plan comes nowhere near 50 routes--we have
30 delivery routes at present
Again I would like to express that our position is unaiterable and I have--Jad,
every effort within my authority to meet the requests of the people of the
Town of Queensbury. Your tolerance and understanding of our postion is
greatly appreciated. If I can be of any additional assistance, please feel
free t*ontact my office.
Respectfully,

Councilman Barber- I am not satisfied with that Mr. Supervisor. . .he
mentioned two criteria one of which, the first, he did not answer
satisfactorily, I think there is appkoxftately 10,000 or more deliveries
in the Town of Queensbury, the second may be the valid criteria. I would
suggest that your office try to reinstitute neOotitions again with the
Postmaster in order that we might continue to have our own postal identity
or zip code identity as 'soon as possible. I do not want this to die
as a result of the change of administration, and that Muv#^ 6r appears to
be.
Councilman Robillard-I think first of all bite should get the fe&lings of
our Supervisor, if he feels the post office is necessary to the Town of
Queensbury.
i
Supervisor Brandt-If you want me to go onrecord, if it is important to
the Town that we try an obtain this I certainly will put out effort
to k ttICIA tL obtoin it, simply doing my job.
Councilman Robillard-I guess—that I am just trying to quote from the
newspaper. . .when it said that the Town of Queensbury was on an ego trip
for a Post Office and you were opposed to it. I do' not feel that this
Town Board is on an e o trip I feel that we are a arch for additional
dollars, we just lost123,O00 dollar+y a stroke of a few words from Governor
Carey and I think' it would behove the Town Board.., if Zip Code is the answer
tS to getting additional sales tax dollars which are spent in Queensbury
I think we sipuld do all we can to get it.
if
Supervisor Brandt-There is no question that,Athat would answer the problem
it would be very worth while.fhere is' some question --- thet it would answer
the problem.
Councilman Robillard-I do not think it would' hamper it.
Councilman Brandt-Again I will go on record that I will attempt to
get the postal service"to identify Queensbury by atAeast Zip C®de.
Attorney from Miller & Mannix was present-presented the Board with
the Application of George T. Weeks for change in Zoning.
Re-Zoning was turned over to the Planning Board. . .
