RAIN GARDEN MAINTENANCE NOTES
EACH RESPECTIVE LOT PURCHASER MUST BE PROVIDED WITH A SET OF THESE DESIGN PLANS AND
EDUCATED ABOUT THE INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE RAIN GARDENS.
THE RAIN GARDENS SHOULD BE TREATED AS A COMPONENT OF THE LANDSCAPING, WITH
MAINTENANCE CONSISTING OF THE OCCASIONAL REPLACEMENT OF PLANTS, MULCHING, WEEDING
AND THINNING TO MAINTAIN THE DESIRED APPEARANCE AND IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IN THE
FIRST COUPLE OF YEARS WHILE THE PLANTS ARE ESTABLISHING THEIR ROOT SYSTEMS. ONCE THE
RAIN GARDEN HAS MATURED, THE GARDEN AREA SHOULD BE FREE OF BARE AREAS EXCEPT
WHERE LANDSCAPING OR STEPPING STONES ARE PLACED.
AFTER EACH STORM EVENT GREATER THAN 1 -INCH OF RAINFALL, THE RAIN GARDENS SHALL BE
INSPECTED FOR EROSION AND HEAVY ORGANIC & SEDIMENT ACCUMULATIONS; THESE
ACCUMULATIONS SHALL BE REMOVED AS NECESSARY. THE TOP 3 -INCHES OF PLANTING SOIL
SHALL BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WHEN THE GARDEN LOSES ITS INFILTRATION CAPACITY AND
WATER PONDS FOR MORE THAN 48 --HOURS.
COMPACTED SOILS NOTES
SUB -SOILS COMPACTED BY CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES AND HEAVY SILTY CLAY SOILS SHALL
UNDERGO DECOMPACTION BY MECHANICAL MEANS THROUGH DEEP TINE AERATION OR DEEP
RIPPING.

THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM IS DESIGNED AND APPROVED BASED UPON THE INSTALLATION
OF WATER CONSERVING FIXTURES AND A DESIGN FLOW OF 110 GPD PER BEDROOM. THE SYSTEM IS
NOT DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE EXTREME WATER USE FIXTURES, SUCH AS JACUZZI -TYPE SPA TUBS
OR WATER TREATMENT EQUIPMENT. THE SYSTEM IS NOT DESIGNED TO ACCOMODATE GARBAGE
GRINDERS. THE INSTALLATION OF GARBAGE GRINDERS, NON -CONSERVING WATER FIXTURES OR
EXTREME WATER USE FIXTURES IS CONTRARY TO THE APPROVAL OF THIS WASTEWATER TREATMENT
SYSTEM
SYSTEM INSTALLATION NOTES
CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE AS SHOWN ON THIS DRAWING AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE N.Y.S.
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH INDIVIDUAL HOUSEHOLD SYSTEMS AND ASTM F481 INSTALLATION OF
THERMOPLASTIC PIPE AND CORRUGATED TUBING IN SEPTIC TANK LEACH FIELDS.
AFTER EXCAVATION OF 2' WIDE TRENCH TO THE DEPTHS REQUIRED, THE WALLS AND FLOOR OF EACH
TRENCH SHALL BE CLEANED AND RAKED IN ORDER TO LOOSEN SMEARED SECTIONS OF TRENCH.
PLACEMENT OF CRUSHED STONE, PERFORATED PIPE AND FILTER FABRIC SHALL BE AS SHOWN, AND
CARE SHALL BE EXERCISED TO AVOID INCLUSION OF FINE GRANIED SOILS AND WASTE MATERIAL IN
THE STONE AND PIPE.
THE PIPE SHOULD BE LAID AT THE GRADES INDICATED MAINTAINING STRAIGHT CONTINUOUS GRADES
WITHOUT SAGS, HUMPS, SEPARATED JOINTS, OR OTHER UNSUITABLE CONDITIONS. PIPE SHALL BE
LAID WITH HOLES DOWN IN ALL CASES.
ALL DISPOSAL FIELDS SHALL BE GRADED TO SHED RAINFALL AND DIVERT SURFACE RUNOFF AWAY
FROM THE DISPOSAL FIELD.
DO NOT USE HEAVY EQUIPMENT WITHIN THE ABSORPTION AREA AFTER PIPING HAS BEEN INSTALLED.
THIS SYSTEM IS DESIGNED FOR WATER CONSERVING FIXTURES AND IS NOT DESIGNED TO ACCOMODATE
EXTREME WATER USE OR EXTREME ORGANIC LOADING DEVICES SUCH AS JACUZZI TYPE SPAS OR
GARBAGE GRINDERS.
ROOF, FOOTING, GARAGE, CELLAR AND SURFACE WATER DRAINAGE MUST BE EXCLUDED FROM THE
WASTEWATER SYSTEM.
FILL MATERIAL NOTES
AFTER REMOVING ORGANICS, PLACE SYSTEM FILL OVER THE ENTIRE AREA OF PROPOSED ABSORPTION
TRENCHES AND TAPER AREA.
"SYSTEM FILL" MATERIAL SHALL BE CAREFULLY SELECTED SAND, SANDY LOAM OR SANDY LOAMY
GRAVEL WITH IN-PLACE PERCOLATION RATE OF 3-6 MIN/INCH AND NO ORGANICS OR OBJECTS OVER
3" IN SIZE. LESS THAN 10% BY WEIGHT SHALL BE FINER THAN 0.05mm. AT LEAST 257 OF THE
MATERIAL BY WEIGHT SHALL BE IN THE RANGE OF 0.50mm TO 2.Omm. LESS THAN 15% OF THE
MATERIAL BY WEIGHT SHALL BE LARGER THAN A 1/2" SIEVE.
SYSTEM FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE INSTALLED TO PROVIDE MINIMUM OF 2 -FEET BETWEEN EXISTING
GRADE AND BOTTOM OF ABSORPTION TRENCHES. ONLY SYSTEM FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE INSTALLED
THROUGHOUT THE MOUND AREA AND TAPER AREAS.
SYSTEM FILL MATERIAL IS TO BE MECHANICALLY STABILIZED IN 6" LIFTS WITH TRACKED EQUIPMENT
PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF TRENCHES.
INSTALLER TO NOTIFY ENGINEER OF PROPOSED SOURCE OF SYSTEM FILL MATERIAL PRIOR TO
TRANSPORTING TO SITE.
MATERIAL REQUIRED TO PROVIDE COVER OF SEPTIC TANKS AND PUMP STA77ON MAY BE NATIVE
MATERIAL OR OTHER MATERIAL WHICH IS NOT NECESSARILY SYSTEM FILL.
