Fire Damage and Restoration
Dear Gregg:
Regarding the above referenced project, the engineer (Edward K. LaPoint, PE) was
contacted on behalf of the owner (Cameron) to perform an engineering assessment and
provide recommendations for moving forward.
1. The home is a split level single family dwelling (approximately 2,100 square feet). It
is a wood fram structure with a famished first floor basement. The home was
damaged by a kitchen (stove top)fire concentrated in the central portion of the
house. Specifically:
1. There is no structural damage to the home.
2. There is extensive smoke and water damage in the kitchen area above the stove
up to the ceiling tiles..
3. The first floor only suffered minor water damage.
2. The following engineering assessment and recommendations are provided:
1. Remove and replace effected ceiling tiles, sheetrock and insulation.
2. Prime and seal smoke stained framing for odor control.
3. Replace windows in accordance with attached schedule to provide code
required light, ventilation, and egress.
4. If any structural damage is uncovered during restoration, it is to be reported to
and evaluated by the engineer.
