Building and Zoning Report
BUILDING AND ZONING DEPARTMENT 1969 ANNUAL REPORT
TO THE
TOWN BOARD
Three-hundred ninety-eight (398) permits were issued compared to Two-
hundred forty (240) during 1968; an increase of One hundred fifty-eight
(158) over the previous year.
Fees collected in 1969 were $3 ,907.00. In 1968 the fees collected
were $1,797.00, an increase of $2,110.00.
Estimated cost of construction started during 1969 as estimated by
the contractors and builders amounted to $6,623,665.00. For the same period
of 1968, construction starts were estimated at $3,310,225.00, showing an
increase of $3,313,440.00 or a little more than double in one years. A
monthly breakdown is attached.
A fee of $15.00 for each of 77 Variances and 7 Special permits, or
$1,260.00 was collected. The Town paid out $1,222.54 for postage and
advertisements alone for public hearings conducted by the Zoning Board of
Appeals. This leaves $37.46 to cover the cost of clerical help, station-
ary, etc. estimated to be in excess of $600.00.
A great number of non-conforming signs displayed on both Quaker Road
and Route 9 have been removed as being in violation of the Zoning Ordinance.
Three arrests were made in connection with Building permits.
May I take this opportunity to thank the members of the Town Board,
especially Supervisor Solomon for the help and cooperation that was given
me throughout the year. My thanks to Norman Ferguson for his congenial
willingness to advise and cooperate. We wish him many enjoyable years
in his retirement.
