Dear Michael,
As per your request we conducted a Preliminary Structural Condition assessment that included
a site inspection on 08/30/18. This inspection included an examination of the roof structure and
condition as well as any structural drawings that were available.
PV solar panels are proposed for the eastern-most, south-facing roof areas as summarized
below. The panels are to be installed below the existing system. The panels are mounted on
rails which are attached to the roof with an anchored deck base system and installed per
manufacturer's specifications and recommendations.
It was found that the roof structure noted on Site Plan PV-S1 and Structural Detail PV-S3 can
satisfactorily withstand the proposed additional loads and will meet the applicable standards
included in the NYS 2017 Uniform Code Supplement, ASCE 7-16, and 2015 IRC.
The loads considered are:
Wind load = 21 psf
Snow load = 50 psf
Roof dead load = 9.4 psf
Solar System Dead Load = 3.2 psf
The total existing load on the areas of the roof where panels are to be installed was found to be
9.4 psf.
The roof is trapezoidal, corrugated, sheet steel atop half inch plywood sheathing.
Overall the roof area is structurally adequate to support the additional load of the solar panels
and their framework.
