July 27, 1965
Mr. George C. Crannell
Town Clerk
Town of Queensbury
95 Dixon Road
Glens Falls, New York 12801
Dear Mr. Crannell:
This is to acknowledge receipt of a resolution
adopted by your Town Board on July 22, 1965 requesting
service by Adirondack Transit Lines, Inc. to the upper
Glen Street area between the northerly city line of
Glens Falls and Quaker Road.
As you probably know, a petition has recently
been received by the Commission from this bus company
in which permission has been requested to abandon all
local service in Glens Falls.
A hearing to consider this petition will be
held in Glens Falls on August 23, 1965 and some of your
members may wish to participate in this proceeding.
Very truly yours,
Samuel R. Madison
Secretary
Supervisor Webster read a prepared statement concerning the matter
of public transportation as follows:
By this time, it should be obvious to all-that our resolution to
ask the P.S.C. to conduct a hearing into the matter of extending
and improving local bus service was adopted after careful thought,
and after conferences with representatives of Adirondack Transit Lines.
The application of the Transit Lines to discontinue local bus service
was verified by the P.S.C. sey6cal days, prior to our town board
resolution. It is obvious that our resolution was misunderstood by
some of the representation in the City Government because our motives
were to save and improve local bus service in every way possible and
from an area standpoint.
Instead of these politically motivated attacks on our town government,
this is a time for responsible statemanship a time when the members of
the City Council should join hands with queensbury officials, and
others in our community, in one common goal: that of improving and
maintaining Public Transportation for all of our people in Glens Falls,
Hudson Falls, Fort Edward and Queensbury.
We have read in this mornings newspaper -the account of last nights
Common Council meeting and it would now appear that more sensible
and intelligent thought is being given to this matter.
112
It was encouraging to read the remarks of Councilman Margola and.
Councilman Varney in which they recommended a joint meeting and
united action.
We heartily endorse such a meeting and feel that it should be
carried out at the earliest possible date August 23rd will be here
soon enoughL. and we should do everything we can between now and
then to present a united effort.
As we see it, there is absolutely no reason why public transportation
for Glens Falls and Queensbury should not be considered on an area
basis for the convenience and benefit of all of our people.
The statement above, as presented by Supervisor Webster, was
received with unanimous approval of the Town Board of the Town of
Queensbury in its entirety. The Town Board members agreed that a
joint meeting with the Common Council of the City of Glens Falls
and the Town of Queensbury, Town Board could result in an agree-_
ment that would be to the advantage of all residents in the area.
The clerk presented an application to locate a mobile home outside
of a duly licensed Mobile Home Court which was submitted by
Mr. J. D. Wilson of Rexford, New York.
Report to the Town Board
9L - Route 149 Intersection
Since this is the first meeting of the town board since the recent
tragic accident- at Ridge Road - Farm to Market Road intersection,
I think I should report as a matter of record that we have once
again, in cooperation with our state representatives from Warren
County, Assemblyman Bartlett and Senator Proller, contacted the
State Traffic Commission concerning more adequate traffic regulation
at this intersection, and in the strongest manner possible.
The board knows that we have approached the State Traffic Commission
time and time again about this condition with limited success.
It was onl* last April 7, 1965 when we wrote a very strong letter,
a copy of which is attached.
It is tragic that it has seemed to take still another serious-
accident to get some new attention to the problem, yet it is
at least assuring to see that traffic studies are now underway
by the State. Field men have been in this area concerning- this
matter for the past few days.
I am sure we all hope that the proper results will be obtained
this time.

Lengthy discussion on the proposed water department regulations as
part of the over-all rules of the planning consultant and the
Planning Board took place at this time. Superintendent of_Queensbury
Water District, Thomas K. Flaherty, suggested that he hopes that
when the rules are formulated, the contractors should be allowed
