February 19, 1959 Mr. LeRoy J, Gordon, Supervisor Town- of Queensbury Glens Falls, New York Dear Mr. Gordon: In the fall of 1958 I conveyed to the Shore Colony Water District certain ground at the northeastern corner of said district, part of which fronts on Harris Bay and upon which is located the pumping plant, pressure tams,; supply line coming out of the lake , and the initial lines of the dis- tributing system. Also located on this plot is a stairway serving as access to the pumping plash as well as to a doc'_ which extends out into the lake. The previous owner had given certain individuals rights to the use of this ground. and the dock and my conveyance to you was made subject to 112 commitments made by the previous owner. I also reserve to myself the right to give others a similar right to use this ground. Ms. Beswick asked that I write you to clear up the question as to my intentions'in regard to.giving lot owners in the Shore Colony Develop- ment any privileges to this ground and dock,, and I would like to definit- ely state Por your records that I have no such intention My thought was that at some future date I might give some few residents of Assembly Point access to this piece of. ground and this .right I still want- to reserve to ,myself although I think the chances of ever making any com- mitment along these lines is very remote. - I hope thig clears up the question to your satisfaction. If not, please so advise me. Very truly yours, jsl H. G. Veeder cc : to Albert E. BESWICK Glens Falls ,N.Y.. Mr. Meredith Bentley January 27, 1959 County Line Road Glens Falls , N. Y, Dgar Judge Bentley: I have examined a notice to funeral directors which the Cemetery Commission of the ,Town. of Queensbury proposes to mail to all area funeral directors and others who have occasion to open graves in the Town of Queensbury. Your inquiry was , as I understand it,, as to what cemeteries in the Town of Queensbury are under the jurisdiction of the Cemetery Commission besides Pine View. Your Cemetery Commission was set up by a special act of the Legis- iature, which is Chapter 814 of the Laws of 1948 which -specifically provides that the Commission shall have the complete management and control of all cemeteries , the title of which are vested in the Town of Queensbury. Back in 1956 we had this same subject under consideration, and on February 21, 1956, I mailed to Mr.. Harris ,a proposed resolution for ,.. adoption by your Town Board, which would have the effect of determining that the title to the Gurney Lane Cemetery, the Mt. Hermon Cemetery, the Old West Glens Falls Cemetery,. the Jenkins Cemetery , the Sunnyeide Cemetery, the Seelye Cemetery, the Harrisena Cemetery and the Bay Road Cemetery is vested in the Town of Queensbury, and authorized the Cemetery Commission to take charge and control of these cemeteries. There is 114 nothing in my file to indicate, whether this resolution was ever adopted. but you can probably determine that from your Town Clerk' s records for September and October, 1956. If thJs resolution was adopted I think that will furnish sufficient basis for your Cemetery Commissioners.to act. If this resolution was not adopted it might be desirable to call a public meeting of all lot owners and others interested in these cem- eteries to find out their sentiment before adopting such resolution. I return herewith the notice which you left with me. Yours very truly, The following is a copy Is/ Albert E. Beswick of the notice : County Attorney (Enclosure) NOTICE TO FUNERAL DIRECTORS Inasmuch as the Cemetery Commission of the Town of Queensbury has been given the responsibility of caring for and maintaining the rural cemeteries of the town, and having had the experience of being required -to go to 'some of these cemeteries after a burial has taken place to clean up and remove surplus dirt from the area when. an opening has been made by workers other than our regular Town of Queersbury Cemetery employees, the Cemetery Commission has made the following; rule which has been ap. proved by the Town Board of the Town of Queensbury: "All openings of graves in the cemeteries of the Town of Queensbury which come under the custody and care of the Town of Queensbury Cemetery Commission must be made by Town Employees under the supervision of the Cemetery Commission.,, Copies of this, letter are to-be mailed to- all, area funeral direct- ors and others who may have occasion to participate in. the opening; of graves in the Town of Queensbury.
