R.D. #1 Re : Grade III Water Works School
Glens Falls, New York
Gentlemen:
A Grade III water works schopl. is being planned for December 15,
16: and 17 at Albany. This school will provide training for operators _
of water treatment plants at the Grade III level. There is no cost
for the school itself and the ' only expense will be that incurred by
the students for transportation or living expenses.
It is recommended that you make arrangements to send, Mr. Ireland
to this school if it is at all possible. An application is enclosed
which should be completed and returned to me as soon as possible .
------- ----------
251
Further details on the school will be sent to accepted applicants.
The State Sanitary Code requires that where some water treatment
process is-used, the operator should be qualified to carry out that
particular treatment. It is possible to gain these qualifications by
virtue of satisfactory experience alone but to be, considered satisfac-
tory, the experience cannot be gained entirely through trial and error
but mustbe under competent supervision. However;, even under these
circumstances, the operator will require considerable time to acquire
the necessary knowledge. It is preferable that a training session devoted
to water treatment be attended for most efficient training. They are of
benefit to the operator and to all of the persons using that water supply.
At- the present time this water supply is without qualified super-
vision as required by the Sanitary Code and this has been condoned as a
matter of necessity since there were no trained
people available nor ha
e th ere been an wat er works schools
conducted since over a year ago. I
hope: that it will be possible to have Mr. Ireland attend this school and
become qualified.
Very truly yours,
Edward Howard
District Sanitary Engineer
Resolution No. 134 introduced by Justice Bentley, seconded by Councilman
Miller:

Grade III Water Works Schpol to be held on December 15, 16, 17, 1959 ,. in
Albany• - -
Further RESOLVED .that the actual and necessary expenses incurred by
Mr'.. Ireland' in attending such school shall be a Town charge.
