I- find that under ;Section 66 of the Election Law a town board is specifically authorized ,tq designate a school, church,, library or other public building s3,t4atte in a contiguous distriet as a polling place even though such building is not within the limits of the dis- trict for which it may be «designated. It seems to me that it would be much simpler to .designate the West Glens Falls fire house as a polling place for district 5 without changing the boundaries. Whereas , the Tsn Board of the Town of Queensbury, 'Marren County, Now York, by resolution duly adapted on the 19th day of Aprils 19559 authorizing the Town Superintendent of Highways to purchase a Ford truck, Model F 800>„ complete -with dump bandy and snow plow, at a total -cost of 550,648.00 subject to the approval of the County Superintendent of High- we and provided that ,M*00 of such cost should be paid from the proceeds of obligations .to be issued pursuant to the local Finance Law, Whereas, a contract of purchase for such truck and equipment was duly entered into by the Town Superintendent of Highways on the 21st day of April, 1955,_ which contract has been approved- by the County Superin- tendent of Highways'. Now, therefore, be it .resolved 1. The specific object or purpose for which obligations are to be f issued pursuant to this resolution is to finance the cost of a Ford `-- truck, Model F 800, complete with dump body and snow plow. 2. The maximum cost of such truck and equipment is $5,648.00 and the plan of financing such cost is as fo17.aws:: $300.00 .is to be provided by current funds to be paid from the machinery fund in the current bud- �II f i 34 get and the balance of $5,348.00 of the cost is to be provided by the issuance of serial bonds pursuant to this resolution. 3. Glens Falls, New York- Gentlemen.- Fort Amherst Road is a nice street , and I. believe those of us living here enjoy_doing so. Whether we live on the south side in the 'city limits or on' the north sidQ,.in the Town of. Queensbury is to a great 'degree in- cidental. The houses all have a fifty foot set-back, and a great deal of 'pride is taken 'in the lawns and landscaping. The people living here' have done.- everything possible to make the street,.one that could be re ferred to as "Hometown, U.S.A." However,+ Ii lb.* on a' 'street' 1i*61*ing two municipalities does not always work out too well#. I hope you will take the interest to dirve over this street and seethe numerous holes and unsightly unfinished portions ,, particularly on the city side. Certainly it is not in keeping with the homes in the area. These holes are really dangerous. I have seen several closely averted head-on col:lisioifs' because' of` 'sbinebh?3*.tryir4' to' avoid them. As I understand its the Glen Street end of Fort Amherst Road is entirely in the city and the line from there gradually works southeast so that before it reaches Bay Street, the road itself is in the Town of Queens- bury. Howdver,, all. of the homes on the south side pay all, or the major portion, of their taxes to' the city. I? It certainly is a difficult proble,' for a highway superintendent to try to repair a street to an imaginary line. I am wondering if a gentlemanl,s agreement could be worked out between the .City and the Town of Queens bury whereby the city maintained the street from Glen to" Fort Amherst, and the Town from Fort Amherst to Bay Road. With the Town of Queensbury practically surrounding the city there mast be many similar problems. Inasmuch as the interests of the two municipalities are so closely entwined, it would seem" to me that close' co-ordination between the City Council an,d. the Town Board would have great advantage to the people in, both municipalities-. It might be well to consider that each year a co#nittee 'of the Town Board and the City Council be appointed to work together, bringing in recommendations before their respective bodies to better expedite some of the existing prob- lems and to bring about closer harmony between the town ard the city. Please do not construe this letter as one of criticism., but merely to point out an existing condition.
