you March 28th,, 1954, to our insured Cecil Gibbs regarding the above

our insured did report hitting a fire hydrant in Glens Falls , New York,
on Jan. 30th, 1954. -

fare your claim can be given farther consideration, it will be necess-

Dear Mr. Wallace

Re.:. A2-X14-dZQ32. Glens Falls vs. Gibbs
In'anso+rer to your letter of April 20th, 1954, the amount of
$57,36.that you referred to from my letter of April 14th, 3.354 was
a typographical error and should have been $77,36.
The only part of your bill that we question is the $10 charge
for loss of water and the only reason this amount was questioned is
because we do not have a receipt or a bill from the Department making
this charge to your Water District. -
Since our files are subject to inspection by the Now York State
Insurance Department and they demand that we have a receipt or a.,bill
in our file for every payment made it is impossible for us to pay more
than the $77,36 unless you can furnish us with a receipt or bill 'in
the amount of $10, which is the amount of lost water claimed.
Very truly yours,.

Dear Mr.. Wallace:
In response to your request for information concerning water
' lost tb'rciugh a broken hydrant on Bay Read the night of Jan. 30th,. 19540
the following information is furnished. '
The latest flow tests taken on hydrants' in that area show that
875 gals, per minute are available when the hydrant is wide open, which
would be the case of this broken hydrant. There is a time lapse about
one hair between the time we are notified of a break and the time that
the flow of water can be shut off. This means that 52,500 gals,, of
water were lost or 7018 cubic feet. ..
Your district buys this water from us in wholesale rates which
- means that your actual cost to us was $3.51,, but according to your
rate schedule- for resale to enasumers in the district the first 5000
cubic is at the rate of $1.32. per 100 c.f.,, the next 2018 cubic feet
is at the rate of $0.20 per 100 c.f., or a total cost for 7018 cubic
feet eta 420..04.
I hope this data answers your question and that the insurance
carriers can settle your claim.
