Queensbury Recreation Commission
Queensbury, NY 12804
Minutes of the July 5, 2005 regular meeting held at the Town of Queensbury
Ridge/Jenkinsville Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 6:30 pm.
Pictures were taken of the ribbon cutting ceremony at approximately 6:50 p.m. at
the entrance to the new tennis court.
Chairman Jack LaBombard called the meeting to order at 6:54 p.m.
Present: Commissioners Etu, Fusco, Irish, LaBombard, Maine
Staff Present: Director Hansen, Assistant Director Lovering
Guests Present: Nancy Hansen
Approval of the Minutes:
Moved by Commissioner Maine, seconded by Commissioner Etu to approve the minutes
of the June 7, 2005 meeting and place on file. All members present approved.
Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies)
. Letter from Patricia Carte, Program Coordinator at ACC regarding information
requested by the Commission on financial details of programs conducted at
Hovey Pond.
. Budget Control Report distributed
. Chairman LaBombard reviewed some past history ofRidge/Jenkinsville Park
development.
Unfinished Business
. Park Project Status (verbal report by Director Hansen)
o Hovey Pond walkway work to begin next week (July 12-14). This
walkway will be extended out further than the current one.
. Stone memorial for Veterans being completed in Vermont. A pad
will be established near the new entrance way to hold this stone.
. Supervisor Stec asked about the fountains in the pond and was told
they would be completed as part of Phase 3. The Commission
feels strongly about completing this work as we planned (i.e. in
phases) and not before.
o Hudson Pointe Bridge will be installed before the end of July. The
weather has not cooperated.
o Tents at the 4-5 school building were destroyed by the strong storms.
Children are out in the sun most of the day. Commissioner Irish said he
would ask the Rotary if the Department could borrow their tents.
Chairman LaBombard will write a letter requesting to borrow the tents.
o Summer programs are up and running with excellent registration and
attendance.
. Dog Park Project Discussion-Commissioner Maine asked about the availability of
the property around the old Sunnyside Firehouse. It appears to be a possible site
for a dog park since it has partial fencing. Director Hansen will investigate. The
proposal used by Clifton Park for a dog park could be used by our Commission in
establishing a dog park.
New Business
. Incident at 2:00am outside Gurney Lane Park where a young man was beaten was
discussed briefly. Contrary to the local press this incident has nothing to do with
the Park or the Department. The facts are that it happened outside the locked gate
and on the street.
. Skate Board Park discussion- location of a skate board park was discussed. Pros
and Cons of using the West End Park as a possible site were hashed out by the
Commission. We will keep this topic on our agenda for future meetings.

Monthly Department Report
. Assistant Director Lovering discussed the Summer Programs. We had a fast and
furious start this year with record registration and attendance. The Q-Club
registration will probably exceed last years.
. Fee structure was discussed and may need future revision.
. It was suggested that final numbers be provided to the Commission at the end of
the summer.
Quite surprisingly, Director Hansen submitted his letter of retirement effective
September 30, 2005. The Commission expressed their deep regret and commended
Director Hansen on his 27 years of superb service to the Community of Queensbury.
Adjournment
Motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Mott, seconded by Commissioner Maine
at 8:00 p.m. All members present approved.
Respectfully submitted,
Approved by,
