MEETING OPENED 7 : 35 P. M.
PUBLIC HFARINn-AMBULANCE CONTRACTS- NOTICE SHOWN OPENED 7 : 36 P . M.
SUPERVISOR WALTER- -HE PUBLIC HEARING , WE WILL BE SIGNING A TWO
YEAR CONTRACT FOR THE YEARS 1984 AND 1985 WITH THREE RESCUE SQUADS —
THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THEIR APPROPRIATIONS TO BE PAID ABOUT 'LARCH
1ST . WE ARE APPROPRIATING TO BAY RIDGE FOR 1984 $21 , 500 . 00
IN 1985 $26 , 500 . 00 FOR' NORTH QUEENSBURY FOR 1984 $9 ,400 . 00 IN 1985
$9 , 400 . 00 FOR WEST GLENS FALLS IN 1984 $25 , 000 . 00 IN 1985 $32 , 000 . 00 .
THE CONTRACTS REMAIN THE SAME AS THEY WERE PREVIOUSLY EXCEPT IT WILL
BE IN ONE INSTALLMENT AND THE AMOUNTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED.
COUNCILMAN EISENHART- THERE IS ANOTHER CHANGE IN THAT WE ARE GOING
TO REQUIRE AN AUDIT ( CASH AUDIT )
SUPERVISOR WALTER— THAT HA:S- BEEN ADDED TO THE CONTRACTS . . . WE ARE
VERY PROUD OF OUR RESCUE SQUADS IN THE TOWN IN THAT THEY ARE VERY
TRAINED PERSONNEL . I THINK THAT THE REGRETABLE THINGOTHAT THE RESIDENTS
IN THE TOWN OF QUEENSBURY ARE NOT FULLY AWAREO THAT IF THEY CALL 911
AN AMBULANCE IS DISPATCHED TO THEMOTHAT THERE IS NO CHARGE—THIS IS
TOTALLY VOLUNTARYOUNOERWRITEN BY THE TOWNnALSO,, EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF
THOSE SAME VOLUNTEERS WHO ANSWER THE CALLS4 THEY ALSO RAISE FUNDS TO
PROVIDE THE SERVICE. DR. FISENHART HAS BEEN OUR NEGOTIATOR AND I j
WOULD ASK IF HE HAS ANY FURTHER COMMENTS.
COUNCILMAN EISENHART—LIKE OUR FIRE COMPANIES , THE TOWN ENJOYS AN
ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF ASSISTANCE FROM THESE MEN WHO GIVE THEIR TIME
AND ENERGY TO MAKING QUEENSBURY A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE . I HAVE
_D@LT WITH THEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND THERE ARE NO FINER GROUP OF
PEOPLE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD THEN THESE PEOPLE . WE FIGHT ABOUT
62
VARIOUS THINGS , BUT THEY ARE EAGER, WILLING AND ABLE TO PERFORM A
SERVICE THAT WOULD COST US MANY , MANY TIMES AS MUCH. I HOPE THE
PUBLIC REALIZES THAT WE DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE FOR DOING THIS
SERVICE4THEY ARE VOLUNTEERS AND NOT REMUNERATED , WHAT THESE MONIES
GO FOR IS EQUIPMENT AND WE HAVE VERY FINE EQUIPMENT- IT IS EXTREMELY
EXPENSIVE. WE HAVE ONE AMBULANCE IN NORTH QUEENSBURY , TWO IN
BAY RIDGE AND TWO IN WEST GLENS FALLS AND THESE ARE COSTLY VEHICLES
WHICH PERFORM A VERY NEEDED SERVICE TO OUR PEOPLE . I CANNOT OVER
EMPHASIZE [MY RESPECT AND ADMIRATION FOR THE PEOPLE WHO PERFORM THESE
SERVICES FOR US .
COUNCILMAN MORRELL-PRAISED THE SERVICE THAT THE RESCUE SQUADS
GIVE TO THE COMMUNITY . . .
COUNCILMAN MONAHAN- NOTED HOW QUICK THE RESPONSE TIME IS FOR THE
RESCUE SQUADS. . . I ALSO WANT TO COMMENT ON THEIR KINDL-*LNESS , THEIR
COMPASSION AND THEIR EXPERTISE . . . THERE ARE NO BETTER PEOPLE THAT j
WE COULD PUT OUR CITIZENS IN THE HANDS OF AS THE MEMBERS OF THESE J
RESCUE SQUADS.
.COUNCILMAN OLSON- I JUST WANT TO ECHO EVERYONES COMMENTS AND PERSONNELLY
THANK THE PEOPLE IN YOUR RESCUE SQUADS FOR THE FINE JOB YOU ARE DOING
FOR THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF QUEENSBURY AND MAKE NOTE THAT THE PAYMENTS
THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IS NOT THE FULL FUNDING , THIS IS ONLY A SMALL
PORTION OF WHAT IT COSTS TO OPERATE A RESCUE SQUAD. . .
COUNCILMAN MONAHAN- I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT I DO NOT THINK THAT THE
PUBLIC IS AWARE OF THE HOURS OF TRAINING THESE MEN AND WOMEN GO THROUGH. . .
ON CALL AND IN TRAINING. . .
SUPERVISOR WALTER- PUBLIC HEARING CLOSED 7 : 45 P . M.
