any further business...
DISCUSSION
SIDEWALKS
Supervisor Brandt-Reviewed the different sidewalks in the Town, speaking to the Board in regard to
sidewalks in neighborhoods such as Garrison Road and Broad Acres to me these are sidewalks that ought to
belong to the property owners, for them to maintain, they should have the liability...there function is for the
neighborhood...other areas are a big problem, sidewalks along Rt. 9 on State right of ways, crossing
commercial property questioned commercial property owners taking care of the sidewalks...noted other
State Roads such as in So. Qsby., some residential areas mixed with commercial, the sidewalks are on State
right ofways...question raised who is responsible for the maintenance of the sidewalks...
Attorney Dusek-spoke to the Board regarding resolutions back in the 1930's taking responsibility for
maintenance of certain sidewalks...
Supervisor Brandt -Questioned if we could pass the responsibility of liability of maintenance to property
owners along State roads?
Attorney Dusek-There is State law that says you can do that.
Spoke about sidewalk district creation for areas such as Broad Acres..also spoke about passage of a local
law that passes the responsibility of maintenance and repair onto the homeowners....
-noted in her area (Glenwood Avenue) there are sidewalks but no one uses them, questioned if they
can be taken out?
Attorney Dusek-I am sure they can be...regarding sidewalks on County Roads this will be researched...
Supervisor Brandt-Re: Dixon Road...spoke about widening the road to give an area for walkers...noted it
was done on Aviation Road...
River Street -sidewalks area could be the legal responsibility of the homeowners who said that they will
take it...
Attorney Dusek-Spoke on a new section of the law, that I believe you can join together with the
homeowners to share construction and maintenance of the sidewalks...
Councilman Tucker-Noted that there are 9.8 miles of sidewalks in the Town, the cost of snow removal
would be $80,000 plus $20,000 for machine to do it...this was put together by the Highway Dept. who is
doing the work...
Councilman Caimano-My feeling is we should fix those that need to be fixed and take care of the people in
So. Qsby. and somehow turn it over to them....
Mrs. Fuller-Spoke to the Town Board regarding Dixon Road and the need for walk ways for children going
to Kenningston Road School...
Councilman Tucker-Noted that a crossing guard may have to be located at Hidden Hills and Dixon if the
road is increased in size to accommodate the children...
Councilman Monahan-Spoke about using the G.F. Transit for bussing the children.. .look into it again...
Attorney Dusek -suggested that a traffic engineer be consulted regarding the situation on Dixon Road...
Discussion held regarding the sidewalks on Million Dollar Half Mile...possible taxing district...suggested
that Dixon Road be on a schedule for next year...It was suggested that the River Street project be done
first...the Town to put in the sidewalk and Homeowners to pick up on maintenance and future repairs...re:
Glenwood check to see if all homeowners wish to have the sidewalks removed...
Discussion held on Ethics Law-Reviewed by Town Board
On motion the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Miss Darleen M. Dougher
