RESOLUTION APPROVING ESTABLISHMENT OF TWO 4-BED
INDIVIDUALIZED RESIDENTIAL ALTERNATIVES FOR
DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED PERSONS
ON DIXON ROAD, QUEENSBURY

WHEREAS, in accordance with New York State Mental Hygiene Law §41.34(c)(1), the
Prospect Child and Family Center (Prospect) has notified the Town of Queensbury that it wishes to
build a duplex home on Dixon Road in Queensbury to establish two 4-bed Individualized Residential
Alternatives (IRA’s) to serve eight developmentally disabled persons, and
WHEREAS, in accordance with NYS Mental Hygiene Law §41.34(c)(1), the Town has forty
days after receipt of notification to respond to Prospect’s request, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board wishes to work together with Prospect to create residential
opportunities to allow people with developmental disabilities the opportunity to reside in normal
community settings, close to their families and friends, while allowing normal, life-enriching
experiences,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that the Queensbury Town Board hereby approves the Prospect Child and
Family Center’s request to establish two 4-bed Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRA’s) on a
4.57 acre site located on the west side of Dixon Road, Queensbury, such IRA’s to be community-
based, 24-hour on-site supervised programs staffed by trained counselors providing habilitation
services and supervision to eight developmentally disabled residents, and
BE IT FURTHER,
RESOLVED, that the Town Board further authorizes and directs the Town Supervisor to
forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Prospect and take such other and further action as may
be necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution.
