RESOLUTION SUPPORTING IMPLEMENTATION OF EXIT 18/MAIN
STREET CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS

WHO MOVED ITS ADOPTION

WHEREAS, the Exit 18/Main Street corridor is a primary entrance to Warren and Washington
Counties and the Town of Queensbury, and
WHEREAS, Warren County Route 28 (CR 28) – Main Street (WAR 02 PIN #1753.80) is
planned for reconstruction by Warren County beginning in the Spring of 2003, and
WHEREAS, significant additional local investment in the Main Street corridor is being planned
by both the Town of Queensbury and private interest including an estimated $800,000 Town
investment in water and sewer facilities, $800,000 for the construction of a connector road,
development of the Veteran’s Field Industrial Park, as well as additional private projects, and
WHEREAS, the Adirondack/Glens Falls Transportation Council, of which the Town of
Queensbury is an active member, has identified the need for two (2) additional highway improvements
in the Exit 18 area in its draft 2001-2006 Transportation Improvement Plan, and
WHEREAS, these two projects include the Exit 18 northbound ramp/Big Boom Road
intersection improvements (WAR 70, PIN #1721.99 – 2004 construction) and the Corinth Road
Northway Overpass Widening (WAR 72 – post TIP period), and
WHEREAS, both of these projects require sponsorship by the New York State Department of
Transportation to complete and are essential for the efficient operation of this principal regional
transportation corridor,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that the Queensbury Town Board hereby requests that the New York State
Department of Transportation follow a schedule for the design and construction of Adirondack/Glens
Falls Transportation Council Project WAR 70 – Exit 18 ramp improvements that is no later than the
one outlined in the Adirondack/Glens Falls Transportation Council’s draft 2001-2006 Transportation
Improvement Program, and
BE IT FURTHER,
RESOLVED, that the Town Board hereby offers additional assistance as may be necessary and
within its power to provide to the New York State Department of Transportation to progress
Adirondack/Glens Falls Transportation Council Project WAR 70 (PIN 1753.80) and WAR 72 to as
early a construction date as is possible, and
BE IT FURTHER,
RESOLVED, that the Town Board further authorizes and directs the Town Supervisor to
forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Adirondack/Glens Falls Transportation Council and
New York State Department of Transportation and take such other and further action necessary to
effectuate the terms of this Resolution.
