Dear Jay:
At your request, on June 27, 2003, I performed a percolation test at the Dunhams Bay Fish &
Game Club on Ridge Road in Queensbury and a review of the proposed replacement septic
system.
Percolation Test
The test was performed in fill material to the south of the existing main club building in the
location where construction of a replacement leach field is proposed. The results of the testing
provided a stabilization percolation rate - 1" in 2 minute, 35 seconds
The test was run in the loamy sand fill at a depth of 24 inches in a 30 inch deep hole. The hole
was presoaked with 6 gallons of water and the test was run 5 times until it stabilized with three
consecutive runs of 2:11, 2:26 and 2:35 respectively.
Septic System Review
The proposed replacement septic system includes installing a 1,000 gallon septic tank, a new
distribution box, 180 if of infiltrators in loamy sand fill. A maximum design flow of 375 gallons
per day was derived from the maximum attendance of 125 people at 3 gpd/person attending a
shooting match at the site. The 3 gpd/person was based on the common per person usage listed in
NYS DEC Design Standards for Wastewater Treatment Works for assembly facilities. The
proposed system is conservative in that it actually provides for a daily flow rate of 432 gpd, which
is 57 gpd higher than the design daily flow rate of 375 gpd.
