You may recall from our conversations that some field modifications were necessary due to issues found after uncovering the existing system. The enclosed sketch provides measured distances to both the existing lines and the newly installed components. The new septic tank was set to meet the elevation of the existing four inch house sewer(which had a minimum 1/4"/foot pitch). The new four inch line out of the tank was installed to the Zabel chamber and the replacement distribution box with a minimum 1/8"/foot pitch. As per our phone conversation in order to provide positive pitch(1/8"/foot)to all distribution lines, it was necessary to eliminate the built in 2" drop in the distribution box. The drop within the box is typically provided to allow any carry over solids to settle within the box and not carry into the absorption pipes. Since the expansion plan includes a Zabel chamber, it is unlikely that any solids will reach the distribution box. Upon excavation of the existing absorption trenches it was discovered that the existing trenches (total of five) were installed at approximately nine feet on center. Due to the increased distance between the existing lines the amount of space available for the new lines was restricted. In order to maintain the required separation distances and to provide proper separation distance to the existing water main, it was determined to eliminate one of the three proposed expansion lines. 900 Route 146,Clifton Park, New York 12065 phone(518)371-7621 -fax(518)371-9540 puulllupl Page 2 =: IIIIIIIIIIIII Mr. Dave Hatin December 28, 2005 A total of five existing absorption trenches were found. The lengths of the existing lines were not confirmed. Our expansion design was based on a copy of an Application for Septic Disposal Permit dated 11/24/86. The permit application listed four absorption trenches at 60 feet long. Since we were not able to determine the length of the existing lines we are assuming for analysis purposes that they are 50 feet long. The system as constructed has a total of 370 linear feet of absorption trench(250 feet existing, 120 feet new). The projected hydraulic loading rate based on the percolation rate was determined to be 888+/- GPD. We discussed this with the Capital District Developmental Services Office (CDDSO) and they agreed that based on the limiting site conditions this was the most economically feasible approach for the property at this time. Based on the projected hydraulic loading rate, the system is adequately sized for five clients (125GPD/client) and up to three staff members (75GPD/staff). The CDDSO agreed that this would be adequate. We hereby certify that the components as modified according to the above explanations and as located on the enclosed sketch as-built, comply with the intent of the system expansion plans dated originally April 20, 2005, with most recent revision dated October 25, 2005. The system is complete and operational. The contractor will return in the spring to re-grade and repair the finish lawn, at which time a final inspection will be completed.
