After consulting with Craig Brown, Zoning Administrator, it appears that the work performed at the building goes far beyond the scope of a sign permit and conversations about adding a door. My observations at the site and discussions with employees indicates the addition of an interior wall, separating the space from the original store. This would require a building permit. It also raises many concerns regarding code issues, i.e. Exit sign over the door, access to the sprinkler control room, dead bolt lock in the entrance door, obstruction of sprinkler heads to name a few. In addition, if service will be performed at this site, it will change the occupancy classification of the building, which will require a code review for any applicable requirements based on the change. I strongly encourage you to schedule an appointment with myself and Dave Hatin, Director of Building and Codes, to discuss the changes and the intended use of the building. I would expect to hear from you by Friday August 19th, to discuss this matter.
