RE: South Queensbury Fire Department – New Septic System Force Main
Dear Mr. O’Brien:
The South Queensbury Volunteer Fire Company, currently undergoing the construction of
renovations to the building and site, will include a buried septic force main extending from a
precast concrete pump station to an on-site soil-based disposal field. The wastewater force
main piping shall consist of two 1-½“ diameter Sch 40 PVC pipes that will pass under a paved
driveway and parking area at total buried depth ranging from 2.8 to 4.0 feet below final surface
grade. The Town of Queensbury Code Enforcement Department has questioned whether the
force main piping should be sleeved under areas of vehicular traffic.
A sleeve is not necessary for the protection of the force main piping in this situation. The 1-½“
diameter Sch 40 PVC pipes constructed upon proper bedding material and backfilled in
accordance with the details and specifications indicated on the plans will provide sufficient
protection with a minimum burial depth of 2.8 feet below grade.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Erik C.F. Sandblom, PE
Principal
