SUBJECT: Mountain View Outlets, Lake George, NY
New Front Facade
We have been retained by Hoffman + Riley Architects of Albany, NY to provide structural
engineering design services for the above referenced project.
The construction for this project is classified as an Alteration in accordance with
Appendix K of the Building Code of New York State. Section K602 notes that the
existing structure must comply with the minimum design loads applicable at the time of
building'construction. The existing building was not designed for, or required to be
designed for, seismic loading criteria.'Seismic design compliance for the proposed
project is not required unless the project includes modifications which will increase the
seismic load or reduce the capacity of any element by more than 5%. Although the new
roof framing will increase the structure's dead load, it does not increase the overall
weight of the structure by more than 5%, which in turn limits the increase in seismic base
shear to less than 5%. Similarly, the increase in wind load due to this framing
represents an increase to the overall wind force which is also less than 5%.
The new construction does create roof parapets that did not exist in the original
structure. However, with the balanced roof snow load.imposed on the over-framing
behind the parapet, the effective width of each, parapet is less than 15'.-Since these roof
projections are less than-15', snow drift does not accumulate per section 7.8 of ASCE7-
98.
If further information is required, please contact us.
Sincerely,
David W. Evers, PE Shaun M. Rivers, PE

To Whom It May Concern:
This Department has received drawings for a new fagade to the Mountain View
Outlet Stores at 1476 State Route 9.
The drawings are not sealed by an engineer or architect and must be, due to
the value of construction being over$20,000.
Also we need structural calculations that show that an engineer has calculated
the ground snow load and wind load for these structures to ensure that they will
withstand the snow loads and wind loads for this area.
If you have any questions, I can be reached at (518) 761-8253. Thank you for
your attention in this matter.
