Dear Anne:
Based on-my March 15th inspection of your residence, the following items are still
open and need to be addressed by Mr. Kay and Mr. Roy:
1. The plumbing vents on the second floor do not appear to have been
installed, and the old plumbing vents need to be disconnected and
removed from the structure.
2. The first floor vent on the kitchen sink needs to be raised above the drain
for the sink.
3. The handrails on the second floor stairs are loose and need to be secured
properly.
4. The rear platform has balusters that are loose and broken and need to be
repaired.
5. The window in the stairwell does not appear to be tempered glass and still
needs to be replaced, as it is within 60 inches of the walking surface of the
stairs.
6. The smoke detectors placed in the bedrooms do not appear to be at the
proper height, as required by the manufacturer. Therefore, we need .the
manufacturer's installation instructions on the smoke detectors to
determine whether they are placed properly or not, but it appears that
they may not be. Also, we need to verify that all smoke detectors are
battery backup.
7. The gable vents or ridge vent has not been installed as of this date.
8. We need a final electrical inspection on the renovations that were done.
9. The sanitary line has been sealed on the inside. We need to verify that it
has been sealed on the outside, and also the line needs to be supported
every four feet. There is no support on the main four inch trunk line in the
house.
10.The sistering of the main beam needs to be redone. The void that has
been cut out of the main beam has not been replaced, and therefore a
splice must be put in the main beam to assure that it will be structurally
sound when finished.
Based on the above, the Building Code violations that were found in my initial
October 4, 2004 have not been resolved to the satisfaction of this Department.
Therefore, no Certificate of Occupancy can be issued.
