Minutes of the April 7, 2009 regular meeting of the Town of Queensbury Parks
and Recreation Commission held at the Town of Queensbury Supervisor's
Conference Room
Chairman Irish called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm
Roll Call:
• Present— Conboy, Fusco, Irish, LaBombard, White
• Excused— Mott, Maine
• Staff—Director Lovering,
• Guests—Gregg Green, representing Friends of Hovey Pond
Approval of Minutes:
It was moved by Commissioner LaBombard, seconded by Commissioner White,
to approve the minutes from the March 3, 2009 meeting. All members present
approved.
Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies)
• Letter of Resignation from Deirdre B. Reynolds, Aquatic Supervisor.
Motion by Commissioner LaBombard, seconded by Chairman Irish to
accept with sincere regret and appreciation for job well done.
• E-mails regarding creation of Dog Park. At the present time the
Commission does not consider this issue a high priority.
• E-mail regarding Rowing at Hudson River Park. Group met with Director
Lovering to discuss specifics. Group is invited to May meeting to present
request to Commission.
• Budget Control Report as of 4/3/2009
• Employee rosterno change
Unfinished Business
• Ridge/Jenkinsville Field Use—review of draft of fee schedule—all
documents submitted (i.e. fee schedule, financial statement, emergency
action plan) Motion by Commissioner LaBombard, seconded by
Commissioner Conboy to approve the documents with suggestions made.
All members present approved.
• South Queensbury Park Lease—discussion. It is the consensus of the
Commission to agree with the Town Board in that the Town Board will take
over the remainder of the lease. Motion by Commissioner LaBombard,
seconded by Commissioner White that the Commission will no longer
maintain or run programs at this fire department facility. All members
present approved.
New Business
• Aquatics Supervisor position—discussion and update on filling this position
due to the resignation of Ms. Reynolds. Director Lovering reviewed the
draft timeline. Need a list from County Civil Service of eligibles. Eight
possible candidates. Choice can only be made from the top three. Director
Lovering will spearhead this process and keep the Commission updated.
• Friends of Hovey Pond/Adirondack Botanical Gardens request to create a
20' by 20' vegetable garden with fencing. Gregg Green was present to give
proposal and answer questions. Vegetable gardening is becoming more
popular. Education and demonstration is a major goal in this vegetable
garden process. Classes will be in the evening and weekends. All produce
will be donated to Food Bank. General consensus of the Commission is to
approve this concept.
• West End Park dedication ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2009
from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Jen did a fine job in planning and arranging this
dedication.

Executive Session
• Personnel Committee report and discussion. Motion by Commissioner
LaBombard, seconded by Commissioner Conboy to enter executive session
to discuss personnel at 8:43 pm. All members present approved. Out of
executive session at 9:06 on a motion by Commissioner LaBombard,
seconded by Commissioner Conboy. All members present approved.
Adjournment Motion by Commissioner Conboy seconded by Commissioner Irish
to adjourn at 9:10 pm. All members present approved.
