2011-10-04 Queensbury Parks and Recreation Commission Queensbury, NY Minutes of the October 4, 2011 regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Queensbury held at the Town of Queensbury Supervisor's Conference Room Chairman LaBombard called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm Roll Call: • Present—Conboy, Fusco, LaBombard, Matthews, Mott,White • Excused-- • Staff—Director Lovering • Guests-- Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Mott, seconded by Commissioner Conboy,to approve the minutes from the September 6, 2011 meeting. All members present approved. Communications and Remarks from Visitors: (see file for copies) • Letter to Superintendent of Schools Huntley from Director Lovering regarding the schedule of programs using school facilities for 2011-12 • E-mail from Adirondack Regional Manager of Northeast Career Planning thanking Director Lovering for use of Gurney Lane facility for NYS Support Group Council picnic • Town resolution amended agreement between Town of Queensbury and Queensbury Land Conservancy regarding additional language to previous resolution relating to trail maintenance caused by major storm damage • Town resolution approving Town of Queensbury Parks and Recreation request to be designated as Sports Center • Town resolution authorizing use of occupancy funds toward reimbursement of Town Recreation Projects • Memo from Director Lovering to Supervisor Stec requesting Contingency funds to repair wood chipper. This request is for$1,950. • Memo from Director Lovering to Supervisor Stec requesting transfer of funds to cover part time worker due to LMEO Whitmore who is out on disability • Letter of Intent from Jason Currier regarding funds raised through softball tournament to be donated to Town for construction of two pavilions at Ridge Jenkinsville; Motion by commissioner Mott, second by Commissioner Conboy to support this(Spring 2012) endeavor with Director Lovering having final decision on all particulars of the structure, all members present approved • Letter from Director Lovering to Superintendent of Schools Huntley thanking him and the Board of Education the support of our programs and activities using school facilities • Letter from Chairman LaBombard to Mike Travis highway superintendent thanking him for creating a parking area off Meadowbrook Road that will service the Meadowbrook Preserve • Budget Control Report as of 9/29/2011 • Employee Roster—no changes from last report, new roster will be provided in November Unfinished Business • Discussion of opening on the Commission—Letter from Judith Goralski indicating interest in the opening on the Commission. Chairman LaBombard encouraged her to write a letter of interest. This will be discussed with Supervisor Stec on a meeting on November 101H New Business • 2012 Fall/Winter/Spring brochure highlights. The Commission is appreciative of Lori's efforts in bringing the brochure together • Queensbury Land Conservancy request and approval for assistance to clean up trail at nature preserve and copy of amended resolution granting same • Girls Hooper Basketball Program to work closely with new high school coaches, Megan Bethel and Lauren Surber. Lori O'Shaughnessy will work closely with these two individuals in developing our program. • 2012 Recreation Commission projects and priority list showing short term goals, and mid-range and long term goals Committee Reports • Budget Review • Safe and Quality Cycling—Commissioner Mott reported on master plan which would enable grants;final not for profit organization; web site up and running with safety information; need insurance policies • Bylaws • School Liaison • Personnel4 • Planning • Program Review Additional Information and/or reports(see file for complete report)—correction on gross monthly receipts from handout: should be, September$15,200 Year to date $209,000. Adjournment—a motion was made by Commissioner Conboy, seconded by Commissioner Matthews,to adjourn the meeting at 8:45pm. All members present approved.
