MINU'IES OF MEETING
JUNE 27, 1983
Minutes of the regular tœeting of the Recreation Cbmnission of the
Town of Queensbury, held funday, J1..1I1e 27, 1983 at the Queensbury Town
Office Building, Queensbury New York. Chairman Little called the tœet-
ing to order at 7: 39 p.m.

The Director apologized to the Cœmission for the brevity of the
evening's agenda and for the lack of material in the m:m.th1y packet. It
was explained that preparations necessary for IIDSt stm:Iær programs, which
began today, made it alnDst impossible to have the minutes and the Director's
Report typed. 'Ihis material will be available for the next tœeting.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
The Director's Report was presented verbally and it was explained that
this was the first day of IIDst stm:Iær activities. Playgrounds, softball,
arts and crafts, swinming, termis and golf lessons, jmior basketball and
the open swim program all kicked off today at 9:00 a.m. Evening programs,
including girls and boys teen basketball, wrestling, jog and swim, aerobic
dance, and the adult swim program will all begin later this week.
It was explained that the stm:Iær brochure had helped advertise the pro-
gram schedule and that the article given to the Post Star last week had not
been printed yet.
The Director was able to visit many of the programs this IIDrning and
initially attendance looks good.
The list of all SUIIœr staff employees and their positions was given
out and there was saœ discussion regarding new employees. The Director
also explained that the softball position at the Bay ¡ Ridge playgromd was
still open and Corrmissioner Charrpagne agreed to help find an individual.
The Conmission was concerned over the lack of publicity about sumœr
programs including playgr01..1I1d activities and wondered whether the Depart:Iœnt
could get air tima on the radio like Glens Falls. The Director said he ~uld
check with WBZA to see if this could be done. Also, the Depart:Iœnt hoped to
keep enthusiasm and attendance for IIDst sumœr activities high, with IIDre
coverage and pictures in the newspaper.
The Conmission requested an executive session to discuss the swinming
pool renovation tœeting and related materials.
Returning to open session, and there being no further business, the
meeting was adjourned at 8:51 p.m. The next tœeting will be held on funday,
July 25, 1983.
