VISITORS: B. Monahan, D. Morrell (Town Board) J. Schonberg (Post Star), and T. Martin APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Granger moved to approve the minutes of the January 24, 1983 meeting. Commissioner Bly seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE The Director introduced Tom Martin, who has been appointed to the Recreation Commission effective in April, replacing Mr. Yasko. The Director briefly reviewed some of the information con- tained in the monthly packet, including: the 1983 Warren County bussing grant sheet, the State of New York Department of Health letter and Commissioner Yasko's resignation letter. There was some concern and discussion regarding the Department of Health's letter about Gurney Lane. In terms of public safety, the Director assured the Commission that Gurney Lane was operated at or above the standard set by the Health Department. 1982 BUDGET ANALYSIS The Commission reviewed the 1982 end-of-year Recreation De- partment Budget Update and were pleased the Department stayed Minutes of meeting-March 28, 1983 Page 2 . . within the estimates. The Commission commented on the overages in the line items; insurance and utilities, and it was explained that the budget figures adopted by the Board were lower than those submitted in the original Department budget. NEW BUSINESS Councilman Morrell relayed a request from some local residents concerning the possibility of the TOwn declaring the week of April 4-9th as Amateur Wrestling Week. Considering that the Recreation Department had previously offered a 12 week peewee wrestling pro- gram which culminates on April 9th with a tournament, the Com- mission was in favor of giving its endorsement to this idea. However, it was pointed out that only the Town Board could make such a resolution and D. Morrell promised to relay the Commission's comments at the upcoming Board meeting. DIRECTOR'S REPORT The enclosed Director's Report was reviewed and there was some discussion regarding winter programs and how the lack of normal winter weather affected program attendance. The Commission commented on the Senior Citizen trips and there was discussion on how individuals register and who may attend. Commissioner Teti pointed out that the trips were available to all seniors who reside in the,Tbwn and not just those who were members of a specific senior club. The latter idea is a misconception which many seniors have and Commissioner Teti wondered if there was any way to remedy this situation. It was suggested, in the future that the flyer for such trips state the trip is open to any senior in the Town and that you do not have to be a member of a senior citizen club. The Director assured the Commission that this could and would be so stated from now on. The Director requested an executive session to discuss personnel matters and possible land acquisition. The Commission returned to open session and there being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:53 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Monday, April 25, 1983.
