1982-03-22 QUEENS BURY RECREATION C01~ISSION MINUTES OF 11EETING MARCH 22, 1982 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission of the Town of Queensbury, held Monday, 1furch 22, 1982 at the Queensbury Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Chairman Yasko called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. PRESENT: Commissioners Bly, Champagne, Granger, Little Roop, Yasko and Director Hansen Commissioner Lavigne (ex) ABSENT: VISITORS: Lee Tugas (Post Star) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Bly moved to approve the minutes of the February 22, 1982 meeting. Commissioner Roop seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE The Director briefly reviewed the two articles of corres- pondance which were enclosed in the monthly packet; the thank you letter from the Glens Falls Recreation Department for the cross country ski trail equipment and a notice from the Warren County Youth Bureau regarding the approved amount of 1982 bussing money for Queensbury (~687.l8). SWIMMING LESSON PROGRAM Under new business the Director relayed information from the Queensbury School District regarding use of the indoor pool this summer (see Director's report). Due to much needed repairs and maintainence, the indoor pool will not be available for Recreation Department programs this coming summer. Gurney Lane, due to its shape and size, can and will be used as much as possible for some lessons, however, the majority of children's advanced lessons, adult lessons, diving lessons and other swimming related programs cannot be programmed at this facility. The Commission suggested that the Director contact other facilities in the area to determine possible usage. The YMCA, Glen Lake, Paradise Lake, the Glens Falls School pool and Camp Jadamada were all suggested and will be investigated. - page 2 minutes of meeting Additionally, the Commission recommended that Queensbury residents be given the first opportunity to register for whatever lessons are available and the Director assured them this would occur. A decision regarding the program was postponed until further information is obtained. LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL The Director explained information concerning a meeting with the Town Supervisor and Queensbury Little League representatives. Once again, Queensbury Little League is requesting Town assistance to maintain and up-grade their facilities. As the Town's repre- sentative the Director will meet with Little League representatives at the ball fields in April to assess the quality of work necessary and report back to the Town Board. At that time, a determination will be made regarding what assistance, if any, the Town can pro- vide. DIRECTOR'S REPORT The Director's report and monthly budget update was reviewed and there were comments regarding the Department's expenditures for the first 2 months of 1982. The Director requested an executive session to discuss the Master Plan. Returning to open session and there being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:24 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Monday, April 26, 1982.
