NOVEMBER_ 23, 1981
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission
of the Town of Queensbury, held MOnday, November 23, 1981 at the
Queensbury Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Chairman
Yasko called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners Bly, Lavigne, Yasko and Director Hansen
ABSENT: Commissioners Champagne (ex.), Roop (ex.)
VISITORS: Dan Morrell (Town Board)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Bly moved to approve the minutes of the October 26,
1981 meeting. Commissioner Lavigne seconded the motion which was
unanimously approved.
COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE:
The Director briefly explained the enclosed information sheet
which was prepared by the Director, at the Town Supervisor's request,
in hopes of making Terry Pratt a full time employee. To date, there
has been no comment concerning this request however, the Director
is hopeful that a decision will be forthcoming shortly.
HOVEY POND DISCUSSION:
The Commission discussed the Hovey Pond gift and the Director
relayed answers to the questions which had been brought up at the
October meeting. It was explained that if the Town was to accept
the gift, in the future the Town could not in fact dispose of the
property by selling it.
Regarding the possibility that sewage is being dumped into the
Pond, a study was completed a number of years ago by Mr. Pete Tarana
(Adirondack Community College), the Health Department and ENCON,
which addressed this subject. The Director has contacted ENCON
and requested a copy of the study.
Overall, the Commission discussed the Pond and its future
potential and in conclusion it was the concensus that there were
many legal questions which should be answered before the gift was
either accepted or rejected. Mr. Morrell agreed and assured the
Commission that their concerns and reservations about Hovey Pond
would be relayed to the Town Board at the next meeting.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Commission reviewed the enclosed rough draft copy of
the Recreation Director's Job Description including responsibil-
ities. In view of the growth and direction of the Recreation
Department in the last three years, it was the Commission's feeling
that an updated job description with new guidelines and respon-
sibilities was necessary. The Commission approved the job
description and recommended that it be submitted to the Town
Supervisor and the Board for their approval.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
The Commission reviewed the ,monthly Director's Report and
budget update sheet and there was some questions concerning the
operation of Recreation Department vehicles and winter programs.

8:54 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Monday, December 28,
