QUEENSBURY RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF MEETING
AUGUST 24, 1981
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission
of the Town of Queensbury, held MOnday, August 24, 1981, at the
Queensbury Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Chairman
Yasko called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
PRESENT:
ABSENT:
VISITORS:
Commissioners Bly, Lavigne, Yasko and Director Hansen
Commissioners Champagne, Roop
Dan Olson (Town Board), Lee Tugas (Post Star)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Lavi~e moved to approve the minutes of the
July 27, 1981 meeting. Commissioner Bly seconded the motion
which was unanimously approved.
COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE:
The Director reported that the old 1976 Recreation Department
vehicle was sold at the Warren County Public Auction for $700.00.
It was also reported that at the Aµgust 17, 1981 Warren County
Youth Board meeting, the Town of Queensbury's request for 1982
Recreation Funds, was approved. The Department had requested
$19,781.50 however, due to lack of funds the Youth Board approved
only $12,685.00 for Queensburys' programs. In thé future, this
figure should change substantially when the 1980 census figures
are adopted in the spring of 1982.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
The Director's report was given verbally and included an
analysis of all summer programs which have concluded as of August 14th.
The swim lesson program was expanded and based on this year's re-
sponse the program will probably have to be expanded in the future
to accommodate all those who wish to participate.
Gurney Lane again experienced another heavy season of use,
which should further indicate a need in the future for improving
and expanding the facility.
Overall, the Director was extremely pleased with the community's
response to the majority of Recreation Department programs which were
offered this summer.

AUGUST 24, 1981
The Director briefly mentioned the possibility of allowing
cross country skiing at the Gurney Lane Recreation Area this winter.
The facility which includes 22 acres plus of woodland and trails
would seem to be ideal for such an activity. The facility is
usually shut down after summer activities and allowing cross country
skiing during winter months would seem to be the first step to
making the facility a year round recreation area. The Director will
continue to investigate this possibility and report back to the
Commission at a later date.
The Director informed the Commission concerning the two ùpcoming
Senior Citizen trips which have been planned for the fall. In
September a boat ride on Lake George (the Mohican) will be held. A
second trip to the Saratoga Racetrack is also planned and will be
held on Wednesday night October 14th.
The Recreation Commission adjourned to Executive Session to
discuss the 1982 Budget and personnel matters. Returning to Open
Session and there being no further business the meeting was adjourned
at 9:40 p.m. The next meeting will be held on MOnday, September 28,
1981.
