MINUTES OF MEETING
APRIL 28, 1980
Minutes of the regular meeting of the Recreation Commission
of the Town of Queensbury, held Monday, April 28, 1980, at the
Queensbury Town Office Building, Queensbury, New York. Chairman
Lyon called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.
PRESENT: Commissioners B1y, Ch~pagne, Lavigne, Lyon, Yasko
and Director Hansen.
ABSENT: Commissioner~'Howe (ex.), Roop (ex.)
VISITORS: Lee Tougas (Post Star)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Following review, Commissioner Lavigne moved to approve the
minutes of the March 24, 1980 meeting. Commissioner B1y seconded
the motion, which was unanimously approved.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
Director Hansen assumed temporary Chairmanship of the meeting
for the purpose of electing a Commission Chairman and Vice-Chair-
man for the coming year. The Director requested nominations for
the position of Chairman and the name of Commissioner Lyon was
offered by Commissioner B1y, seconded by Commissioner Champagne.
There being no further nominations, the nominations were closed
and Commissioner Lyon was unanimously elected as Commission Chair-
man for another year.
The Director then requested nominations for the position of
Vice-Chairman. Commissioner Champagne nominated Commissioner Yasko
and after a second by Commissioner B1y, the nominations were closed.
Commissioner Yasko was unanimously elected as Commission Vice-
Chairman for the coming year.
COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDEN~E:
The Director briefly reviewed the letter from Mrs. M. Cohen,
on behalf of the United Cerebral Palsy Organization, concerning
their request to use the Gurney Lane facilities again this summer.
The group's request, does not conflict with Recreation Department
programs and the Commission agreed with the Director's recommenda-
tion for approval.

SENIOR CITIZEN - UPDATE:
The Director updated the Commission concerning Senior Citizen
activities and some of the plans for trips which will occur this
summer. Use of the Grange Hall as a Senior Citizen Center was also
discussed, and the Director will keep the Commission advised as to
further deve1opmeats.
SUMMER PROGRAM REPORT:
The 1979 summer program report was presented and reviewed in
depth. The commission was concerned that volunteers and those who
work for the Department on a contractual basis were not covered under
the Workmens Compensation clause.· Therefore, it was decided that
these individuals should be paid on a salary basis (every two weeks)
so as to insure that they would be covered. The Director agreed that
this could and would be done,for all personnel this summer.
Overall the Commission was pleased with the program report in-
cluding the recommendations for the coming year. Commissioner Yasko
moved that the 1979 summer program report be approved and that the
Director implement the recommendations contained therein. The motion
was seconded by Commissioner Lavigne and was unanimously approved.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
The Commission reviewed the Director's Report and there was no
discussion.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
9:03 P.M. The next meeting will be held on Monday, May 19th-1980.
