We had a design team do a manual J for the proposed roughly 1,000 square foot addition that F.H Alexander is putting on,and this is what we have come up with. The total added heat load is about 20,000 BTU an hour, with about another 1 ton of cooling added to the house. We will remove existing Roof top unit and put on a new 5-ton roof top unit that will handle the cooling load for the addition as well as make that rooftop unit heating as well.We will do so by adding a propane gas line to the new unit so now we can have a backup heat source for the main living area(heat by electric baseboard now)as well as it being the main heat source for the new addition. We will accomplish this by simply tying into the existing duct work and adding runs needed for the new addition. The size of the heat exchanger on the new roof top unit will be big enough to accommodate the entire house if need be. Also, with this rooftop unit we can make sure make-up air(fresh air)is added into the building with the use of an economizer. That is my proposed design and course of action for 5 Wild Turkey lane.
