Engineering Evaluation of Commercial Building Plans Submitted le

1. This is a single-story addition to an existing business building and does not include an
attached garage.
2. The Use Classification for the new addition is C2 Mercantile, moderate hazard and the
Construction Classification is Type 5b.
3. The first floor is a 4" reinforced concrete slab-on-grade, poured monolithically with the
footings (reinforced with 2 #4 rebars continuous) resting on 6" compacted crushed stone
with 6 mil poly between stone and concrete. The concrete should be a minimum of
3,000 PSI strength for waterproofness, ease of finishing and durability.
4. Roof support for the front section of the addition is by pre-engineered trusses.either 24"
O.C. or 16" O.C. with a pitch of approximately 4" in 12". The truss manufacturer shall
be responsible for the design and construction of all trusses to support a live load of 54
PSF normal to the roof surface plus all dead loads of roofing, lumber, insulation and
ceiling finish. The contractor shall be responsible for the installation and bracing of all
trusses per instructions from the truss manufacturer. The roof of the 14ft. side addition
will be formed by raising the existing roof and adding new rafters, all supported by both
existing and new sidewalls.
5. New exterior walls will be 2"x6", 16" O.C. insulated with R19 fiberglass with vapor
barrier. Ceiling/roof to be insulated with R36 insulation with a vapor barrier against the
warm side.
6. The addition shall have smoke alarm(s) and at least one exit from each room(leading to
grade) marked with an appropriate "EXIT" sign. The new showroom entrance should
have an exterior concrete landing and be fitted with handicap-accessible latching
hardware.
7. All design and construction must comply with latest editions of the New York State
Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and The National Electric Code and with
any applicable local building codes and/or regulations.
