As we discussed by telephone,these doors are part of a rated firewall system,which forms a separation between the main exit corridor and the rooms in question. Section 771.4 (a) (2)of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code requires that these doors be equipped with self-closing hardware. Because the rooms in question are areas of public assembly, Section 765.5 (a)(3)of the Code requires that the exit doors from these rooms shall be equipped with approved fire exit bolts,more commonly referred toas"panic hardware".
