SUPERVISOR WALTER- WE HAVE HAD A BUSY YEAR , IN 1982 WE HAD THREE NEW
WATER DISTRICTSJWE ADOPTED A NEW MASTER PLAN THAT WAS ONGOING SINCE
1974 . WE HAVE PUT IN CLOSE TO FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS IN RE-HABILITA_ "
TION IN WEST GLENS FALLS . OUR BUILDING PERMITS IN OCTOBER WERE THE LARGEST
IN THE AMOUNT OF MONEY WAS FOR THE LARGEST IN THE HISTORY OF THE TOWN.
j WE ADOPTED A MASTER PLAN FOR RECREATION WHICH HARRY AND THE RECREATION COM,
HAD BEEN WORKING ON FOR FIVE YEARS . WE TOOK A MAJOR STEP IN ADOPTING
A FIRE CODE, THE NEW YORK STATE FIRE CODE FOR THE TOWN. THERE WERE CLOSE
TO TWENTY MILES OF ROADS PAVED IN THE TOWN , MR. NAYLOR HAD A VERY GOOD YEAR.
HE ALSO PLOWED MORE DAYS THEN ANY OTHER HIGHWAY SUPT . IN THE PAST TEN
YEARS BECAUSE OF THE KIND OF WINTER WE HAD. UNLIKE A LOT OF OTHER TOWNS
AROUND US WE WERE ABLE TO GET THROUGH ON OUR BUDGET FOR THE HIGHWAY AND
THAT IS A TRIBUTE TO THE HIGHWAY DEPT. EVERTHING WASN 'T GOOD BECAUSE OUR
REVENUES WERE DOWN IN MANY SOURCES. THE BIGGEST STEP THAT THE TOWN BOARD
TOOK WAS THE ABOLISHMENT OF THE POLICE DEPT . AND TAKING A STEP IN 1983
FOR CONTRACTUAL SERVICES WITH THE COUNTY, I HAVE BEEN TOLD TODAY WE HAD
A REQUEST FOR OUR POLICE CONTRACT FROM TEMPLETON , CALIFORNIA, THEY WANT
TO GO THE SAME ROUTE. 1983 THE TOWN BOARD WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO PUT IN THE
BUDGET SOME MONEY FOR A BROCHURE FOR THE FIRST TIME WE WILL BE PUTTING
THE EMPHASISjWHICH IS PROBABLY LONG OVER DUE ON BUSINESS AND TRYING TO
BRING IT INTO THE TOWN AND THAT IS WHAT THE BROCHURE WILL BE FOR. WE WILL
BEGIN AND WE HAVE SPOKEN WITH MR. ROBERTS YESTERDAYS IN LOOKING INTO
SEWERING A SECTION OF THE TOWN , WE WILL BE DOING THAT IN 1983. WE WILL
CONTINUE LOOKING INTO NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS WHICH I THINK HARRY WAS TALKING
ABOUT TODAY WITH PAT TATICH FROM THE PLANNING DEPT. 11E WILL BE LOOKING
FOR APPLICATIONS FOR A NEW GRANT FOR MORE MONIES TO COME INTO THE TOWN.
I THINK WE HAVE OUR WORK CUT OUT FOR US . WE HOPEFULLY WILL GET SOME
BUSES RUNNING ALONG WITH THE OTHER COMMUNITIES IN THE AREAjEVERYONE IS
FAIRLY ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THAT. CONTINUING COOPERATION WITH THE CITY
ON THE LANDFILL PROJECT AND PERHAPS OTHER COOPERATIVE VENTURES IN AREAS
AS RECREATION_, IT LOOKS LIKE WE WILL BE MEETING A LOT . WE HAVE ACOMPLISHED
f QUITE A GREAT DEAL IN 1982 AND THERE IS STILL MORE TO BE DONE IN 1983.
`- I WILL ENJOY _ WORKING WITH THTS;BOARD IN 1983 AS I HAVE IN 1982 AND YOU
REALLY ARE VERY COOPERATIVE IN COMING OUT AS OFTEN AS YOU DO ON SHORT
NOTICE. PHONE CALLS NOW THAT WE CAN TALK TO EACH OTHER ON A CONFERENCE
LINE WILL CUT DOWN ON TRAVELJWHICH WE NEVER CHARGED THE TOWN FOR.
OPEN FORUM
COUNCILM NNOLSON-THANKED THE TOWN EMPLOYEES FOR THEIR COOPERATION
IN OBTAIt '•THEIR CONTRACT. . .TRANKED MR. FLAHERTY AND MR. NAYLOR FOR
THEIIR WORK AND ALSO THE EMPLOYEES OF THESE DEPARTMENTS-THEY HAVE GOTTEN
A LOT OF THINGS ACCOMPLISHED. SPOKE ON THE JOB THE LANDFILL MEN HAVE
DONE AND NOTED THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES THAT USE THE LANDFILL . .
76
COUNCILMAN MORRELL- SPOKE ON THE COST OF USING A COMMERCIAL HAULER FOR
PRIVATE GARBAGE PICKUP VS. USING THE LANDFILL FACILITIES THEM-SELVES . . .
THAT MAY BE A REASON WHY THERE WERE MORE CARS BEING COUNTED AT THE
LANDFILL. . .
WE FINALLY DO HAVE A CONTRACT WITH OUR TOWN EMPLOYEES AND I WANT TO
, EXTEND MY APPRECIATION TO THEE{R TOL-ERANCE AND PATIENCE FOR THE TIME
THAT IT TOOK TO GET THIS CONTRACT AND I KNOW IT IS KIND OF DISHEARTENING
AT TIMES TO GO ELEVEN MONTHS WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL ENUMERATION FOR
THE SERVICE THAT YOU ARE PERFORMING AND YET THEY STILL PERFORMED THE
SERVICES TO A GREAT HIGH STANDARD THAT IS BEFITTING THIS TOWN, I WANT
TO EXTEND MY THANKS TO THEM. COMMENTED ON THE DISAPPOINTING -
WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR THE RECREATION WINTER PROGRAMS. . .NOTED THAT
THE ICE RINK AT -THE QUEHSBURY SCHOOL IS AVAILABLE FOR USE-MY HAT
IS OFF TO HARRY FOR FIGHTING WITH OLD MAN WINTER. . .
MR. TURNBULL-THANKED THE TOWN BOARD FOR MEETING AT ANHOUR THAT
THE RESIDENTS CAN ATTEND THE MEETINGS. . .
ON MOTION THE MEETING WAS ADJOURNED.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED ,
DONALD A. CHASE , TOWN CLERK
